Brief Biography[edit]

James Warner-Smith is a Sudbury, Ontario, Canada broadcaster and singer. Warner-Smith's career in radio began in 1977 and the photo to the right was taken during one of his first airshifts on CHAS-FM. He is currently Programming Assistant for Rogers Ontario North Radio based in Sudbury.

Warner-Smith was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and is the son of David Warner-Smith, who was a highly respected music educator in Sault Ste. Marie from 1946 to 1972.

James is married to Alison Jerrett of Corner Brook, Newfoundland and has four children.

He has worked on radio and television in Northeastern Ontario and Northern Michigan since 1977. Warner-Smith has worked for Gilder Broadcasting, Telemedia Communications, CBC Northern Ontario, Mid Canada Television, Marathon Media, Shaw TV, Northern Star Broadcasting and Rogers Broadcasting.

Warner-Smith is a voiceover announcer with Overnight Radio Productions and is heard on radio stations across Canada, the United States, in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Cayman Islands.

Singing[edit]

Warner-Smith is also a classically trained tenor who has performed with choirs in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to St. Paul's Cathedral. He regularly sang O Canada and the Star Spangled Banner for many years before Sault Greyhounds hockey games and has performed the anthem for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, OHL All Star Game, Subway Super Series and the Memorial Cup. He has performed with the Chamber Singers of Algoma, the Algoma Festival Choir, Musical Comedy Guild, Singers Unlimited, the Central United Church Choir, the choir of St. Luke's Cathedral and the Lake Superior State University Fine Arts Academy.

Among his most memorable experiences are performing John Rutter's Mass of the Children at Carnegie Hall in May of 2013 as well as touring England and Scotland as a teenager for 22 services and performances in 18 cities in 20 days, including Evensong over two days at St. Paul's Cathedral. As a member of the Chamber Singers of Algoma, highlights include performing at the Toronto International Choral Festival and joining the Elmer Iseler Singers in a performance at the Algoma Fall Festival.
