The Classical Manipuri dance, also known as the Manipuri classical dance, formally known as the Manipuri dance (Meitei: Meitei Jagoi, lit.'Meitei dance'),[c] is a genre of Indian classical dances, recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as well as the Ministry of Culture (India). It consists of three main dance forms, namely the Manipuri Raas Leela (devotional dance drama),[d] the Meitei Sankirtana (ritual singing and drumming dance form) and the Thang-Ta (martial art cum dance form). These art forms are the epitomes of Meitei civilization. Besides the recognition by the Government of India, the Meitei Sankirtana (also known as Manipuri Sankirtana) is recognised as UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in 2013.
