State Representative Brenda Kupchick was re-elected to her fourth term representing the people of the 132nd District in Fairfield and Southport on November 2016.

Personal life[edit]

A lifelong Fairfield resident, graduate of the Fairfield public schools and attended Fairfield University and Norwalk Community College, Rep. Kupchick and her husband Peter have one adult son and live on Farist Road in Fairfield.

Career[edit]

Brenda and her husband, Peter have owned and operated Peter Kupchick Heating & Cooling, Inc. for the past twenty years. She served as Constituent Services Representative for U.S. Congressman Christopher Shays (2002-2009) and in Constituent Services and Public Affairs, for State Senator John McKinney (2009-2011).

Political career[edit]

Brenda serves on the legislature’s committees on the General Law, Finance, Revenue and Bonding and also serves as the ranking member of the Housing committee.[1]

Prior to her election as state representative she served as an elected member of the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting from 1999-2003, and 2009-2010 serving as the Public Health and Safety Chairman. Brenda also was a member of Fairfield Board of Education from 2003-2009, and on the Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission from 2004-2009.[2]

Advocacy[edit]

Rep. Kupchick was the founder of “One Voice” an education advocacy group, and is a former member of the Fairfield Taxpayers Association. She is a past long time member of the PTA, Pop Warner, and Gridiron Clubs. Brenda is a long-time volunteer for animal rescue groups and shelters. Brenda is a volunteer for Operation Hope, a Fairfield based non-profit that assists the homeless and those in need.[3]

Representative Brenda Kupchick has used her position as a State Representative to advocate on behalf of Connecticut's mothers. She has worked with Operation Hope [4]in order to collect diapers for Connecticut's children.[5]

She supported legislation that implemented recommendations of the Task Force to Study Life-Threatening Food Allergies in Schools. The bill makes schools safer for students with potentially life-threatening allergies[6].

State Representatives Brenda Kupchick (R-132) and Laura Devlin (R-134) along with Judiciary committee member State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) hailed passage of legislation that they co-sponsored to combat gun violence, which included a ban on so-called “ghost guns” and bump stocks by the legislature’s Judiciary committee.[7]

State Representative Brenda Kupchick (R-132) and State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) on Wednesday lauded the state legislature’s Judiciary Committee for passing measures to establish a statewide animal abuse registry and prohibit accelerated rehabilitation for people convicted of felony animal cruelty charges.[8]
