Early First-Class years 1888/89 to 1892/93[edit]

Owing to his strong performances for the Sydney Cricket Club in the first half of the 1888/89 Alick was selected to make his first-class debut for New South Wales in a match against the Australian XI. He performed well on debut scoring 34 runs in New South Wales' only innings. Alick didn't gain selection in any further first-class games that season.

Background[edit]

The New Zealand Cricket Council had requested a tour by the Australian team en-route to the England for the 1909 Ashes tour. This requested was rejected the Australian cricket authorities and an offer was made to send an Australian Second Eleven to tour New Zealand. This request was rejected the Australian Board of Control and a tour by a second eleven (Rest of Australia) was offered. In turn, this offer was rejected by the New Zealand Cricket Council
