A number of proxy servers of The Pirate Bay (TPB) have sprung up following wide DNS-based and other blocking of the side by various legal bodies.[1] Such proxies have been set up by political parties as well as private persons.[2] Both blocking of TPB and proxy servers has been claimed to be a form of censorship.[3]

In turn some proxies have been blocked or shut down due to legal pressure.[4] Others have shut down because of the financial risk of prolonged legal battles.[2][5]

One type of attack have created proxies on victims servers, such as that of the Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers website.[6]
