The Danish State Bankruptcy of 1813 was an event that had great consequences for the economy and citizens of the time. The issuing of banknotes greatly reduced the value of the currency and saw the state plunge into a financial hole. It wasn't until 1818 where an independent non-governmental bank was formed, that Denmark came out of bankruptcy and began to return to it's once powerful state amongst Scandinavian nations.[1]
