"Poker face" or "Fuck her face"?[edit]

I would like to correct the lyrics in these captions. I've submitted the obviously-correct lyrics but they keep getting reverted unfairly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.193.20.55 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@71: First, I've added a heading here to make clear what you're talking about. Second, please sign your posts using ~~~~ at the end of your comment. Third, could you please post the argument you were making at User:Blaze Wolf's talkpage, so we can have everything in the same place? -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 20:31, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing! Just let me go get it. He did not make it easy to retrieve all of it by keeping it on his page or anything. -- 71.193.20.55 (talk) 20:35, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My corrections to the lyrics are accurate and very easy to verify, and my reasons given are included in the edit history.
The lyrics are very clear - literally, just listen to what she's saying in that portion. Just listen to that portion of the song, which is clipped and provided on the song's page right here on the Wiki. It's very very clear. Here are some links for additional verification:

I am pretty sure this is the radio version that repeats "poker face" instead of the album version's "fuck her face" -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 22:16, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gaga herself commented that people just hear it wrong, so the radio version is the same. No one ever complained or noticed. We should at least have the correct lyrics in the captioning if the snippet is going to be there at all - which, of course, it should be.
Also, from a personal angle, it's quite offensive that people keep insultingly and incorrectly calling my simple correction "vandalism". That's very wrong. -- 71.193.20.55 (talk) 22:23, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can read all about it at those links and on many, many other sources elsewhere. There's only one version of that particular portion of the song - the same portion clipped right here on Wikipedia - and it's very clearly audible in all recordings. -- 71.193.20.55 (talk) 22:25, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@71.193.20.55: The song still gets airplay in the US where fucks on the radio are a $10k fine (iirc) and a radio mix exists, so I have my doubts. Relistening to it for the 20th time, I hear a pronounced "p-" sound followed by an "-er". It is plausible that a "fuck her" is hidden in the mix here. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 22:38, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Another few rounds of listening, what I think I hear is "Po-po-po-poker face, po-po-fuck her face" with the fuck her being closer to "fuck-er" because the two words are getting blended. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 22:46, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hehehe, well, thanks for listening on repeat! xD LOL
I appreciate the effort very genuinely. And yeah, I didn't think this was actually controversial. Coupled with those sources, plus the clip available right here on Wikipedia, towards the end of the 23-seconds here (File:Lady_GaGa-Poker_Face.ogg), it sounded rather evident to me once I knew what I was listening for. But then I suppose anyone can analyze the audio and see that the waveform is fundamentally different in the second repeat of both subdued "background" vocal portions; those "f", "uck", and "her" sounds are indeed the sounds being uttered. It's weird, and one definitely expects no difference because of the quick repeat, but there doesn't appear to be a "p" on the second repeat, nor is there a "poke" sound. Rather, it is an "f" and "fuck."
But I notice the page is corrected, so thank you very much, sir, for your attention to detail.
Just to add to the knowledge base here, for the record, here's even more info: TIL that Lady Gaga admited that Kiss FM was the only radio station to correctly censor the song during the chorus when she replaces "poker face" with "fuck her face". - todayilearned.

And finally, a YouTube video where she talks about it with much apparent personal satisfaction, of the "cat with a canary" variety. -- 71.193.20.55 (talk) 00:20, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
