The Instigators is an upcoming American heist thriller film directed by Doug Liman, written by Chuck Maclean and Casey Affleck, and starring Affleck and Matt Damon, who also produces the film alongside Ben Affleck under their production company Artists Equity for distribution by Apple TV+ under Apple Original Films.
Premise[edit]
A botched robbery causes two thieves to go on the run, dragging along one of their therapists in the process.

Production[edit]
It was announced in December 2022 that Apple TV+ had acquired the rights to the project, which would see Doug Liman directing, and Matt Damon and Casey Affleck starring. Damon will also produce alongside Ben Affleck under their Artists Equity production company.[1] In February 2023, Hong Chau joined the cast,[2] with Paul Walter Hauser, Michael Stuhlbarg, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Ron Perlman joining the following month.[3][4][5] Jack Harlow was added to the cast in April.[6]
Filming began in Boston in March 2023.[7] Locations include Bova's Bakery.[8] They also shot some scenes on Long Island, including at the Nassau County Correctional Center and in Long Beach.
Release[edit]
The Instigators is scheduled to be released by Apple TV+ on August 9, 2024.[9]
