Walt Nielsen[edit]

Created by Giants2008 (talk). Nominated by Wilhelmina Will (talk) at 01:50, 20 June 2014 (UTC).

  • Article is not long enough. Looks like reference 1 has some stuff that could be used to expand it (his asthma, nickname...) Article will be GTG if expanded. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 17:58, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
  • As the creator of the article, I can devote some time to expanding the article if necessary. When the DYK nom started (thanks to Wilhelmina for that), I searched briefly for other sources and saw a newspaper obituary. While I haven't looked at the article yet, I wouldn't be surprised if some new content could be added from that. Giants2008 (Talk) 20:22, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
  • I don't like the scare quotes around hay fever; it isn't clear why the reported reason is quoted in the source, it may just be because it is reproducing another source verbatim rather than casting any doubt on the veracity of the story. Belle (talk) 00:27, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
  • The article is now expanded and I now count over 2,000 bytes on my DYK checker. Please note that I cleaned up the grammar of the hook and removed the link to Jersey City Giants, which went to an article on a minor league baseball team. Since Nielsen played for a football team of the same name, this would have been an improper link. Giants2008 (Talk) 15:39, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Now good to go; article is new enough, long enough, and source supports hook with no signs of close paraphrasing. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 15:44, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Promoted as

... that although the New York Giants signed Walt Nielsen in 1939, he spent that season with the minor-league Jersey City Giants because of his hay fever?
