Don Juan Mateos, Peter Perret

Don Juan Mateos by Diego Velázquez
Don Juan Mateos by Diego Velázquez
  • ... that the painting Don Juan Mateos by Velázquez was identified through an engraving by Pedro Perete, the son of Peter Perret? Gallego, Antonio (1999). Historia del grabado en España (in Spanish). Ediciones Cátedra. ISBN 84-376-0209-2.

Some possible issues here: the hook source above doesn't appear to be used in the article on Don Juan Mateos, and the painting isn't mentioned in Peter Perret; also, Origen y dignidad de la caça dates to 1634 while per Peter Perret he died in 1625 — Spanish wiki Pedro Perete, linked in Don Juan Mateos as the engraver, is "hijo y discípulo del grabador flamenco Pedro Perret" (ie possible father & son with similar name issues); (also should this article be Pieter Perret?), Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 21:52, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@Maculosae tegmine lyncis: Consistent with the fact in Juan Mateos (courtier) I added the hook source to the article. I could go with either Peter or Pieter. Good catch on Peter Perret and his son Pedro Perete. --evrik (talk) 03:11, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
If this is right, perhaps, with a new article on Pedro Perete, a 6x hook would be possible, "son of homonymous engraver Pieter Perret" or some such, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 22:39, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
You want to tackle the son, Pedro Perete? --evrik (talk) 03:11, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I can only read a little Spanish and only via Latin and Italian, and am not at all familiar with the sources (?access?) or the subject area, plus there's a million and one Japanese ones I'm trying to concentrate on at the moment; was thinking more if this dyk nomination is to proceed, either separately or with the other three, etc, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 05:40, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
@Maculosae tegmine lyncis: Okay, I translated the article about the son. So now there are three, or six if we combine them with the other three. --evrik (talk) 21:42, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

The painting page looks good to go and it's certainly good to split father from son, however, still some concerns about which is which and whether there may be some errors in the Spanish wiki page(s) translated, if not their sources: from a quick glimpse at this linked source (Pedro Perret 1555–1639) do we have the birth date of the father and the death date of the son, at least per Spanish wiki, in footnote 4 of the following page do we hear the father is called Jean, then a couple of pages further on is it this Perret that's buried on 8 April 1639...; do you agree this needs a little further digging? Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 07:47, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

  • I went and clarified the information. The younger Perete's date of birth is unknown, but his death date is known, 1639. There appears that a major biographer confused the son with the father and that confusion continued. --evrik (talk) 15:26, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: ok great, lots of clarification, and the health warning re past and potential confusion is sounded loud and clear both at the top and the bottom of the article, so I don't know what more we can do; final query - do you want this combined with the other three or to aim for its own picture slot? Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 15:41, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

  • six would be a hoot, so yeah. Combine. --evrik (talk) 16:12, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
: good to go - but please do not run this dyk separately; to be combined with Template:Did you know nominations/Alonso Martínez de Espinar, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 16:39, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
