Crusade for Freedom[edit]

Crusade for Freedom stamp with a multicultural West contrasted with repressive Communists

  • Reviewed: September 2012 Egyptian-Israeli border attack
  • Comment: It may be more interesting to say that the CIA became the largest political advertiser in the US (spending more than Dewey & Truman combined), or that this was the "highest-profile" domestic CIA operation in history; however these claims may be sensationalist, so I'm seeking input from the DYK community. Another hook is also possible—there are many interesting facts in the article!—so just be aware that I'm open to doing it differently. Edit: I also think this picture of a 'capitalism vs. communism' stamp is worth including, but I'm not sure how to work the 'pictured' into the hook...
