I believe that this page should be merged with the article Shona art to form a more extensive article here that covers all fine arts created by people who lived or worked in the geographic area of Zimbabwe at any time in history. See my discussion on Shona art for the rationale.

For the moment, I have added links on this page to Shona art and vice-versa. Mikedt10 (talk) 12:55, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

DO NOT Merge

I think merging them is quite a poor suggestion because Shona art and Ndebele art are very different and distinct. They need to be separate. The Zimbabwe art page should include both Ndebele and Shona art and then link to the other pages for more details...Also not all ndebele art is from Zimbabwe since they ndebeles are in South Africa too... so merging them doesnt make sense given the geogrpahical location of Zims ethnic groups too... It would do both art forms an injustice -- --67.246.98.147 (talk) 05:13, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

I see your point but NONE of the material is even identifying what is Shona and what is Ndebele. It would be great to create articles that really described those. As it is there is really only an article on Art (in general) of Zim; and one specifically on sculpture. As with all other countries, it is listed as the sculpture of the country. (If there are certain ethnic groups making certain types of sculpture that can certainly be added to the Sculpture of Zimbabwe article, but it is not there yet. Yes, I finally renamed Shona art into Sculpture of Zimbabwe and moved some of its content here

The Shona art article almost exclusively focused on Zimbabwean sculpture so in accordance with the already remarked-upon need to fix this situation, I changed the name of the article to "Sculpture of Zimbabwe". There was also some material there which covered Art in Zimbabwe generally and I have removed that material and worked it in to this article (Art in Zimbabwe). So we now have an article that is an overview of Art in Zimbabwe and then a more specialized article covering Sculpture of Zimbabwe. I understand there are different kinds of art for the Shona vs. Ndebele, however NOTHING in the article actually addresses this. The so-called "Shona Art" article was actually about ALL sculpture in Zimbabwe, plus some odds and ends about painting. So,first someone would need to undertake adding that information and then it might make sense to create additional articles truly focusing on the Shona or Ndebele arts.
