Neutral point of view[edit]

According to wiki rules, it is not duty of wiki writers to accuse someone or something. Zaman newspaper is known to be related with Fethullah Gülen movement and it is mentioned in the article. As the sources shows this movement has many opponents, enemies as well as supporters. So, balanced arguments coul be added to the article regarding the opinions of both sides. As the given source [1] indicates "the Gulen Movement does not own ‘Zaman’ newspaper", it is not acceptable to include a comment as the introduction sentence such as "a conservative Islamist Turkish daily newspaper and known for being a significant media outlet representing the Islamic Fethullah Gülen movement". Althouh the stance of the souce is seen from the name of the given "source", "Fethullah Gülen's Grand Ambition: Turkey's Islamist Danger", even that source does not have such a citation. Also, the verifiability of the source which includes lots of accusations is doubtful since it is a forum page. I restored the initial opening sentence of the article as "Zaman is a major Turkish daily newspaper in Turkey. It was founded in 1986 and was the first Turkish daily to go online in 1995". If you want to discuss accusations about the newspaper or its political stance, you can open a new section as "Pollitical Allegiance" or similar, and write to there. suggestions for improvement and a warning[edit]

I think I should have started a ToDo page for this article, but I couldn't figure out how to. This is a pretty good starter, but Zaman's links with the Fethullah Gülen movement, perhaps along with the other media outlets of Feyza (STV,Aksiyon..etc.)should be mentioned. I think an article without mentioning Zaman's significance in Turkey's islamist movement is very misleading. Its editorial stance, its closeness to the Justice and Development Party government should be added. The fact that it regularly prints interviews/chats with Gülen should be included. A reader should be able to understand that this newspaper is a part of a larger mission; and it is a religious-minded one. Otherwise it is too misleading. I think the editors should be super careful with updates to this article as this is an emotional political issue. If a pro-Gülen person works on the article, then it will pretty much look like what it looks like now (i.e great, georgeous, super, angelic, wonderful newspaper.) However, a secularist might do great injustice to the newspaper and miss out some of the progressive aspects of Turkey's islamists represented by Zaman. I think as this article grows, it might turn into a one that is closed to public editing. But for now, at least the reader should understand that there is the issue of "religion" involved when you say Zaman. If we happen to forget to mention that, then we are not doing a Wikipedia article as we violate all its principles. Grushka (talk) 13:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

reference[edit]

It says "This article or section does not cite its references or sources." Can you state you want reference about what, please? 88.233.10.25 15:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Hakan_D[reply]

[edit]

This article really sounds like an advertisement: As an independent daily newspaper, Zaman is recognized for its fair, objective and balanced news coverage. It has won numerous national and international awards, in particular for its modern page layout and contributions to inter-cultural understanding through its international editions.

Its political orientation should also be mentioned in its introduction. Another thing that should be mentioned, is the fact that Zaman is often distributed for free (obviously in an attempt to acquire a share of the market), which explains its high circulation number. --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 11:53, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your claim that Zaman is ditributed freely is not true. I added a report published by an independent Media Auditing company which verifies Zaman's circulation. Kel einstein (talk) 22:33, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

---They leave 3 to 5 copies at the entrance of where I live and there is only one subscriber out of 16 families living here. Admittedly, it is a small statistical sample size but even 2 copies for 1 subscriber would be enormous. However, 4 median copies for one subscriber is just ridiculous. 88.234.79.105 (talk) 03:59, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To add to your sample: I received daily copies of Zaman for free for a couple of months. After I indicated that I was not interested in becoming a subscriber, the delivery stopped. --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 08:45, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Circulation Figure Outdated[edit]

It is unclear as to when the circulation figure was taken, but seems to be very outdated. I don't think the source is very credible either. I suggest a removal. 81.215.13.145 13:20, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The circulation figure is updated now. Kel einstein (talk) 22:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Zaman.jpg[edit]

Image:Zaman.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

circulation[edit]

in the reference for the circulation of zaman [2], the subscription/single copy ratio doesn't seem so trustable.it's like 10/1, while most other newspapers has approximately the reverse subscription/single copy ratio. Kuzux (talk) 12:42, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cursive?[edit]

Why is the article's title in cursive? (°_°) --Dia^ (talk) 05:51, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Does someone know how to correct this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.127.31.77 (talk) 11:13, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Zaman point of view questionable[edit]

The sentence in the article " It is a conservative[6] newspaper which has a moderate Islamic worldview" is pure fiction. This is not a conservative newspaper. It's basically a pure liberal antiAKP newspaper. They rarely on their website support the AKP. The main opinion columns are never conservative and always critical of the conservative AKP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.128.40.138 (talk) 08:19, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the editions section words like "is" and "are" need to be changed to "was" and "were" - the newspaper no longer exists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.108.82.6 (talk) 03:12, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
