Is his mother Jewish?

If she's not, he's not. That's how it works, and the categories should reflect that -- just as it does for all people of Jewish ancestry on Wikipedia. 76.98.223.32 (talk) 02:27, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

He has a Jewish ancestor. That's pretty much the end of it. Your interpretation of Jewish law is irrelevant, and Jewish law itself, in this context, is irrelevant, although you might find some editors who agree with you.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:34, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
His paternal grandfather was Jewish, the son of Polish Jewish immigrants. His paternal grandmother's ancestry included German and Anglo (i.e. not Jewish). I don't know much about Efron's mother's ancestry, but it's (fairly) clear that she isn't Jewish. There's a quite good family tree of Efron's father's side here. Efron is not listed in any "Jewish" categories that I can see, just one of "Jewish descent". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 03:01, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Even though just one of his grandparents is Jewish, Zac did describe himself as Jewish here - [1] [2], and later added "I very much am [Jewish]... look up [Efron]" (the surname).

I'm commenting only because I commented earlier. Generally, unless something's obvious, I don't care that much about what picture we use. In this instance, I don't think the time frame should matter as it's only a matter of months. I don't feel strongly about it, but I prefer the newer picture mainly for the other reasons 77. mentions and partly because it's a head shot.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:44, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Can someone please edit the filmography part and say that "The Lucky One" was also nominated for choice movie drama for the People's Choice Awards. Thanks. As a huge Zac fan that means a lot.

I think that information isn't usually recorded in actors' own filmographies. Only Efron's own nomination (Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor) is. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:39, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

At various points, Efron's potential projects included the title role in the live-action adaptation of the Jonny Quest cartoons,[44] This Is Where I Leave You, an adaptation of Jonathan Tropper's comic novel,[45] Einstein Theory,[46] an adaptation of Fire, by Image Comics, and the American remake of Swedish crime film Easy Money.[47][4 Please remove this part. It seems kinda insulting as if he had had the roles and then lost them. Obviously these are not gonna happen. So what's the point in keeping them? Also can you add more details of his other films. How his Lorax did well at bo and also That Awkward Moment too despite bad reviews. Also Neighbors currently has 100% rating on rotten tomatoes. Can't you add them too?? I've noticed that neither of those incidents which occurred in the past year are included in Zac Efron's Personal Life section of his Wikipedia biography. This is supposed to be a factual article not an advertisement so why are neither of those prominent life events included, both of which occurred after his stints in rehab and were widely reported to be related to drugs? His incident in Skid Row should be stated here as a legal issue. TMZ obtained legal reports of the incident including a man Efron referred to as his "bodyguard" having a criminal record for drug dealing.

Not done: Rumor and speculation aren't included in articles, especially when it's negative and involves a living person. Stickee (talk) 02:23, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
This is not (just) rumor and speculation. Both incidents are properly sourced:
  1. The mutual combat incident: Los Angeles Times, a reliable source, says: "Actor Zac Efron got into an altercation with at least one homeless person [...] police officials confirmed." (emphasis mine) Also usable might be Time: "Police say they saw Efron and his bodyguard “in a full-blown melee with at least 3 other people,” according to TMZ. [...] Law enforcement officials told TMZ that nobody was arrested because they viewed it as “mutual combat"."[3] (again, emphasis mine) How reliable a source is depends on context. Together, those two sources should be sufficient for the incident at Skid Row.
  2. When it comes to him braking his jaw in an unrelated incident, that too has enough reliable sources. How it happened is mostly speculation - what Efron claims; WP:PRIMARY - but that it happened is reliably sourced. Us Weekly is usable here, and even MailOnline. E! Online[4] is referenced by CNN,[5] Boston.com,[6] USA Today[7] and Daily News.[8] TMZ is being referenced by Fox News.[9] WENN[10] is being referenced by the San Francisco Chronicle.[11]
In my opinion, both incidents are also notable and should be mentioned in the article. Clearly a lot of reliable sources - CNN, USA Today, and so on - agree that it's noteworthy. --82.136.210.153 (talk) 07:48, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. No need for this request template to be open. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 21:37, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
There was not "a lot of discussion", there was one editor (Stickee) who claimed the incidents would be "rumor and speculation". Rumor is a statement or claim of questionable accuracy, from no known reliable source, usually spread by word of mouth, and speculation is making an inference based on inconclusive evidence. Both incidents are (very) reliably sourced. After I pointed this out, all you did is hit and run; why did you even touch this thread? I'm reopening the request. --82.136.210.153 (talk) 06:50, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
Not done - The reply to your last request asked you to obtain consensus, but you have not even tried to do that, let alone achieved it - Arjayay (talk) 08:54, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
If you reread my response, you'll see that I disagree with Technical 13's premise that there is "a lot of discussion". Regardless of whether Stickee's concerns were legitimate or not, they have been addressed. You and Technical 13 have added absolutely nothing to this discussion. All you have done is closed the request with a statement that consensus would be necessary. What happened in this thread is, in this order: an editor makes a request, a second editor thinks the material is "rumor and speculation", a third editor gives more than enough sources that show the incidents are facts and not rumor and speculation. Now suddenly you want consensus. What are you talking about? Consensus that the incidents are facts? Are you truly claiming that when Los Angeles Times writes that police officials confirmed something, that the newspaper is lying? And that 0 of the resources about Efron's jaw incident are reliable? Can you try to do a little bit more than just close a request and write that some kind of consensus is still required? Any effort at all? I'm reopening this request. --82.136.210.153 (talk) 09:33, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
See also WP:PUBLICFIGURE: "In the case of public figures, there will be a multitude of reliable published sources, and BLPs should simply document what these sources say. If an allegation or incident is noteworthy, relevant, and well documented, it belongs in the article – even if it is negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it. If you cannot find multiple reliable third-party sources documenting the allegation or incident, leave it out." --82.136.210.153 (talk) 10:17, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
The Hollywood Reporter mentions both: "Efron has had his travails well documented: First, he entered rehab for an addiction to alcohol and drugs last spring; then he suffered the indignity of having his jaw wired shut following a fall in his Los Feliz home, when he skidded by an indoor fountain; and finally came the March incident when his car clunked to a halt in a dubious part of town, after which Efron grappled with a homeless man."[12] --82.136.210.153 (talk) 15:38, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Regardless if you agree with my assertion that there was some discussion here or not, there is still no consensus for this change. Please establish one before reopening this request. Thank you. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 16:09, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
So what you are saying is that, because Stickee wrote the incidents are rumor and speculation, which has repeatedly been proven to be untrue with very reliable sources, I now nevertheless have to post on Stickee's Talk page to invite Stickee here to discuss whether this is still rumor and speculation? --82.136.210.153 (talk) 16:43, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Still unsure why no edits have been made regarding the broken jaw and Skid Row altercation? Other notable people have similar incidents mentioned in their Wikipedia pages. It may not be desirable but its factual and OCCURED as both incidents were reported by several reputable media outlets, and one involved law enforcement (Skid Row fight) and the other Zac confessed to himself on Jimmy Kimmel (broken jaw). In a sense it is less accurate to omit the information as it gives a false image of the celebrity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dauntlessone (talkcontribs) 00:04, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Efron sought treatment in early 2013 after struggling with alcoholism and substance abuse. He has been sober since June 2013.[1] In November 2013, Efron had to have his jaw wired shut after breaking it in a fall at home. Please change Efron has been in a relationship with model and entrepreneur Sami Miró since September 2014. to something along the lines of Efron began a romantic relationship with model and entrepeneur Sami Miró in September 2014. The couple split in April 2016.[1][2]

Sami Miro and Zac Efron split in April of 2016. Multiple sources have confirmed this, and since the news of the split Efron has also opened up about being single and recent experiences with Tinder.

Discography

I have simplified the discography of Efron, since he is not a singer, so it is not relevant to make this section so extensive with information that is already in their respective articles. But Mn1548 is opposed to this, since according to he this it is important. I would like to know what other users think about it, with regard to this. Should I leave it like this, or revert my edition?, we have been talking about in my talk page. I hope more participation from the community.--Philip J FryTalk 16:53, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

Discussion

True Zac Efron doesn't have a solid career as a singer because he is mainly and actor. However he has still got songs credit to his name therefore this should be displayed on his page as it is true information which should be included on an encyclopedia. In addition, if anything, the songs should be left on and not the soundtrack albums as the songs are credited to him and the albums are not. Also, seen as Zac Efron has done mostly musicals the discography will only strengthen his career as an actor. Mn1548 (talk) 16:55, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

@Mn1548: That can be mentioned, but the numbers in the positions seems totally irrelevant, because that is for the soundtrack and already each album has its respective article. And as I can see, the songs that you want to mention are already in the articles of the soundtrack. He is not a singer, is only part of his performance, nowadays anyone can sing, for example, like Cameron Boyce.--Philip J FryTalk 17:00, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
Adding the chart positions and certifications show how well the songs did comercially and is present in most other discographies on Wikipedia so I think should be on this one as well, and given the fact that most of these songs don't have their own pages gives reason to keep it on due to the fact that pages for albums only display charts positions and certifications for the album and not the songs in them. Also saying that the songs are only part of his performance is not true as each song had its own studio recording like professional singers do (You can tell this by listening to the song in the film and on the soundtrack; most of the time they are different even if the difference is only slight). Finally, saying anyone can sing is an irrelevant point. I can sing, doesn't mean I'm any good at it unlike Zac Efron who's must be as he's had studio recorded top 20 Platinum certified songs. Mn1548 (talk) 19:56, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
@Mn1548: In fact, anyone can sing or how would you explain this?, And as I said before, those songs were not written by Efron. And as I said earlier, those songs were not written by Efron. There is no need to expand a discography section. Taking into account that the recognitions of the albums go to the film, and the soundtrack and the cast in general. Is there a song by Zac, where I sang as a soloist and got many recognitions? What I sang in a movie does not deserve that the section expands. The songs he sang are in the respective article of the soundtrack, which already exists.--Philip J FryTalk 20:20, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, there are songs by Zac Efron, if you had a look at the table before it was deleted you would have seen this - for example "Rewrite the Stars" by Zac Efron and Zendaya. In regards to writing the songs himself, quite a lot of artists have songs wrote for them. If you don't write your own songs, it doesn't mean you don't get credit for performing them. Regardless the fact that the information is on the main page doesn't justify the fact that it can't apper on Zac Efron's page with the information with respect to Zac Efron because that's what a discography is! If your points were valid then you wouldn't see discographies on artists' pages. It doesn't matter whether his singing is his primary method of performance or secondary, it's still valid information and should be on the page. Saying he is an actor by trade and not a singer is a reason to disregard his discography is rubbish because all your saying there is that people can only be famous for one thing which is wrong. David Beckham for example has a filmography, small no less, but is still there. You can't ignore this because his primary career is in football. It's the same with Zac Efron, you can't ignore is singing performances because he's primarily an actor! Mn1548 (talk) 16:05, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
@Mn1548: Well "Rewrite the Stars" is in The Greatest Showman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. So why do you want to add it again? In fact in that same article shown are your Peak chart positions. So why do you want to expand Zac Efron's discography more? With mentioning the soundtracks in which he appears accredited is enough.--Philip J FryTalk 17:01, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
I want to add those songs on his discography because they are credited to him. You don't see other discographies only showing albums or missing songs of which that artist has been credited with. Every artists page I've seen has all charted and certified songs on their discography so why should Zac Efron be any different. Any true and valid information should be on Wikipedia because it is an encyclopedia, that is the whole underling message I am trying to put across. Mn1548 (talk) 17:26, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
He is an actor, not a singer, so that section can not be expanded with unnecessary data.--Philip J FryTalk 18:26, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
But the fact is he has sung with at least 15 songs to his name, and how is this data unnecessary? It is valid information which strengthens his career as a performer. It is not up to you to decide whether this information is necessary or not! And if it is the fact that it should be on the page, please show me the page on Wikipedia Policy which says I can't add a discography section to the page of an actor! Mn1548 (talk) 20:47, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
But the albums he has collaborated on are already in the discography section. I do not know what else you want to add.--Philip J FryTalk 20:59, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
I have already said, the stuff that was already there. Chart Positions and Certifications for the soundtrack albums and his songs that he sung on them. There is no reason why this information can't be displayed. Mn1548 (talk) 05:29, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
@Mn1548: He is not a singer, and all that you want to add are credits that go through the albums not for him.--Philip J FryTalk 12:30, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
As I've already said, the fact that he's not a singer doesn't justify not included a discography of his work on his page. And regards to the credits [1] the respective songs are credited to Zac Efron and not the cast. I could show this for all the soundtracks but I think this makes my point. Mn1548 (talk) 16:10, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
@Mn1548: Here I have left this, so that other users can also decide what is best for the article.--Philip J FryTalk 16:54, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
Thankyou, I think that's probably best seen as we can't agree. Mn1548 (talk) 16:58, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

Split Proposal

Can we please split the discography section into its own article to include the information in the above section seen as an inconclusive discussion occured regarding this information's place of the main page. Separate Wiki about Zac Efron in Film and Television

I believe that the filmography section on this page is quite unreadable It is too large to exist just as a section of the page. I think it would be better if we split it from the original page and just have a list of the big films and shows he has been in. Γιαννης Παπαδογκονας (talk) 12:40, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Support split to Zac Efron filmography. Don't create it yet until there's consensus, also there is a Draft:Zac Efron filmography in progress. The main page can then just list the big films, not the shows. Shows are never listed like that if a filmography section is created, see Ashley Tisdale#Filmography. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:22, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
  • Support. My plan is this:
  1. Move all awards information from the filmography table to the "Awards and nominations" section.
  2. Move the filmography to a separate list (as proposed).
  3. Merge his discography with his filmography (which is currently undergoing an AfD discussion).
  4. Rename new list List of Zac Efron performances.
  5. Take to WP:FL. :-)
I thoroughly thank AngusWOOF for the guidance they've supplied me. — Miss Sarita 17:47, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
I would keep discography separated. That should be for his audio recordings and all his "featured" and "with" collaborations. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:11, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
There is an ongoing AfD discussion regarding his discography with some pretty logical explanations as to why it shouldn't exist as a separate list (much of the information within the list is redundant as Efron has only performed musical acts as part of an ensemble in musical films). I will definitely wait to see what the consensus is on that one before moving forward, but the model is to follow featured lists such as List of Amy Adams performances and List of Anne Hathaway performances. — Miss Sarita 18:28, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
Hey, AngusWOOF. Any word on the future of a possible split? Looks like the outcome for Efron's discography list was to have it redirect back to Efron's main page. Could this have an affect on the outcome of the split proposal? — Miss Sarita 04:31, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose – The current Filmography is not nearly long enough to justify a separate article. --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:54, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
  • Oppose — Per the reasoning above. 25 films & a few TV projects are not that many credits. Certainly not enough to merit a separate page. Dhalh (talk) 02:11, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
  • Oppose – Per the reasoning above.--Fradio71 (talk) 04:56, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Oppose – per above. The list is seriously too short to be split. Callmemirela 🍁 talk 18:12, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Per WP:SPLIT, this page doesn’t meet the requirements to be split. Regarding page size, the page doesn’t have enough characters to definitely require dividing. The current page is 80,000 characters; the rule of thumb states articles over 60k should probably be divided but an article needs to hit 100k to certainly be divided. Additionally, his filmography is closely related to who he is as a person and why he is notable and has a Wikipedia page. The notability of his film credits on their own is not substantial enough to justify a separate page at this time. If his credits included a wider range of work, such as directing and producer work, a split may be justified. Sunline09 (talk) 19:37, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Per the reasoning above. While it does seem that the article is long already, it does not seem reasonable to split. The article can still handle more words and credits. LuckAintBad (talk) 03:46, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

CarterLennon changed the lead image, citing a difference in quality, but was reverted for lack of consensus, so I'm proposing it here. I agree with the change; the current image is taken from a video upload, and is of noticeably lesser quality. Its color seem to be slightly off, judging by the skin tone, and the way it's cropped results in less focus on his face. Prefall 13:38, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

He has been sober since June 2013.[1] In November 2013, Efron had to have his jaw wired shut after breaking it in a fall at home.[7] In 2022, Efron claimed he still does physical therapy to rehabilitate this jaw injury, and when he stopped, his masseter muscles grew, causing a swollen appearance. [8]

Efron claimed, in 2022, that he recently quit a vegan diet, replacing it with intermittent fasting as his “body wasn’t processing the vegetables in the right way.”[13] After undergoing a series of food sensitivity tests, Efron said he has since settled on a protein-heavy diet, which sees him eat only two meals a day, each of which has meat, and drink apple cider vinegar before each. [14] In 2022, Efron opened up about his struggles with mental illnesses including insomnia, agoraphobia and depression, with the latter stemming from taking "too many diuretics for way too long" to prepare for his role in the 2017 movie Baywatch. Siblings

Zac’s brother Dylan posted on Christmas Day a photo with a child, a boy named Henry Efron who he described as his ‘lil bro’. Henry will be Zac and Dylan’s half-sister Olivia’s full brother seen as David, their father, is married to her mother (he remarried after his divorce to Zac and Dylan’s mother, Starla) and Henry is younger than Olivia. He is not their full sibling but as Olivia is mentioned in the ‘Early life’ section when describing who Zac’s siblings are, I think Henry should be included too now that his existence is known.
