please remove 'citation needed'[edit]

came to check and see if anyone was able to contribute any of the missing data -- esp adding to the list of members.

unfortunately, all i see is a 'citation needed' for this sentence:

"Their choice of Ford, and his subsequent win, set the stage for Ford to later be tapped as Vice President, and then President by secession.[citation needed]"

could someone please remove that 'citation needed'?

  • 1- that statement is a FACT due to the structure of usa government -- it's not an opinion
  • 2- the reason it's a fact is because *whoever* ended up in that position would have become vice-president by default
  • 3- due to a series of odd events, Gerald Ford was never elected--yet became vice-president...then president, because he was holding that specific political position. if it were not for the 'young turks' choosing him, he wouldn't have been in a position to be handed the office of the vice presidency--and then the presidency
  • 4- it just so happened to be Gerald Ford who the young turks picked--and that is how he became president--he was in the right place at the right time. it would have been some other guy who became president if the young turks had chosen someone else.
  • 5- the young turks ended up having one of the most influential impacts on usa government through a very odd series of events. they were big news in washington during their time, and they held several key positions in the government. but the oddest part of all is that it was providence of Ford being put into that position by the young turks that put him into the chief exec's seat.

so, the statement doesn't need a citation -- it is a fact that the turk's choice...and ford's win...set the stage for him to be in that position when the government needed to move the top republican into the vice presidency. Number.6.freeman (talk) 20:32, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You do know, of course, that facts need citations too?
And no, that the Young Turk's choice automatically ("by default") led to Ford becoming VP and President (your point, not the article's) is not a mere "fact", it is a highly questionable opinion. It wasn't a Young Turk who won the elections in 1968, was it? "set the stage" is much more sensible statement, but it still needs proper sourcing.
