Redirect[edit]

consider World Trade Centre is used everywhere other than America and World Trade Center links to the USA one (although there are many and that need to be dismbiguated) this should be a redirect to the international ones because when written like that it certainly doesnt refer to the American incarnation.Lihaas (talk) 09:35, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to revert it back to point at the New York World Trade Center. Of the 20 links in the "What links here" list, 14 are referring to the NY WTC, 3 are in discussions on article naming, 1 is referring to another WTC (I'm not sure which), and 2 are referring to the film. So I suggest most wiki links are actually referring to the NY page. Also, the World trade centre (lowercase, -RE) also points to the NY page, and I like consistency.

Variations that should all redirect to the same page, whatever it be:
The subtle spelling difference should not lead to a different Wikipedia page. I am from Australia and tend to automatically spell “centre” with an RE. It was confusing to find one WTC spelling led to the New York article and an alternative WTC spelling led to a wider-scoped list that does not even have an obvious disambiguation link to the New York WTC. I disagree, though I won't revert. When I think of World Trade CentRE it's to the Commonwealth meaning, which could be one of several articles on the List of world trade centers page. However I do accept that that the reader could inadvertently use the -re spelling when intending to reach the NY WTC. Zarcadia (talk) 01:42, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your point of view. If I understand it, you are saying that “World Trade Centre” (-RE) is ambiguous but probably refers to a WTC building or complex in a place that spells centre that way, and I assume you think “World Trade Center” (-ER) mostly likely means the New York one. I still don’t agree :P. Perhaps a compromise would be to redirect to World Trade Center (disambiguation), considering that has prominent links to both our options? I think that's a good idea, I edited World Trade Center (disambiguation) recently putting emphasis on the former NYC WTC article (which I doubt there is any disagreement with) so that article is easily reached from the disambig. Zarcadia (talk) 07:58, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
