WCL Logo Image[edit]

I really have limited Wikipedia skills, so if anyone can get the WCL logo up on the site and have it stay there, that would be great. I figure if the UFC, K-1 and other organizations can have them up, I would tend to think that the WCL logo is valid under similar terms, no? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Valiss (talk • contribs) 18:48, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed martial arts?[edit]

What does this have to do with martial arts? I'm not super knowledgeable about it, but isn't it a striking competition? Personally I don't think it should be a MMA stub or have anything to really do with MMA to avoid confusion. Thesaddestday 11:19, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the term for what you are refering to is Hybrid-Martial Arts, which is the actual fighting style that requires expertise in ground as well as stand-up. The WCL does "mix" martial arts in the sense that its participants use karate, muay thai, and boxing tecniques. Jackbox1971 04:10, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong. A Hybrid martial art is simply a style or set of techniques composed of movements, techniques, etc. from different styles. An example is JKD. Mixed martial arts is a sport, in which you must know ground, stand-up striking and takedown techniques, because all are allowed in competition. Mista-X, Just because ground fighting isn't allowed in the WCL, doesn't mean that it isn't a MMA-type fight. The same could be said for all of the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practioners who study striking arts to compliment their style. If they chose not to use a strike during an MMA fight, does that still not make them MMA practioners? Your comment does't make sense.

Listen, it's not MMA. Should we call Sanda MMA? Should we call Combat Sambo competitions MMA? Howabout kickboxing? All of them incorporate different and various techniques. Kickboxers take techniques from Karate, Muay Thai, TKD and Boxing, etc. etc. these days. It's mixed. But MMA is a specific sport with rules that allow for ground fighting, clinching, striking, etc. WCL is a striking only competition, and that's not MMA. --Mista-X (talk) 05:58, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually...that comment makes no sense...if the guy that said Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner was competing against was allowed to use those strikes...then it would be a MMA competition...how an individual approaches a match doesn't determine the rules of the competition.69.255.110.29 (talk) 18:03, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Philadelphia not listed as a team????[edit]

The Philadelphia Fire is no longer a team in the WCL. The WCL has only been around for one season so some of the teams are moving around. The New England Strikers do not exist any more and the Houston Enforcers moved to St. Louis.

The Las Vegas Gators are also gone.

History[edit]

Does anyone know the history of WCL? When the show first aired and such? I read a few years ago in Black Belt magazine that Norris was organizing it and just last night caught an episode on TV. To my surprise the first season is already available on DVD, and while some fighters have a lot of fights under WCL some others have only one or two. This is probably due to some teams being organized before others. Does anyone have any dates to update this wiki? Philosopher2king (talk) 03:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)philosopher2king[reply]

-I know that they did a couple of demo fights in 2005 and started the first season officially in 2006, though you'd have to do some digging on the net to get the exact dates. They are having their 3rd season starting 2009. -Val
