Sources[edit]

The sources in this article appear to me to be based in large part on press releases. See badpr.co.uk for discussion of the red flags. Also E.M.Gregory could you please stop linking to ProQuest, since virtually nobody can actually access those links? Guy (Help!) 11:50, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

reported articles from CNN, The Vancouver Sun and similarly reputable media are WP:RS.E.M.Gregory (talk) 11:58, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Frankly, the only sourcing problem is that there is such a plethora of WP:RS material in news archives and books that the difficulty is to know where to start.E.M.Gregory (talk) 14:05, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Are you familiar with the problem of churnalism? Do you know how much content in reliable sources is actually PR material? Are you familiar with the red flags for PR material? Do you understand why this happens? Guy (Help!) 14:28, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please AGF. Of course know what "churnalism" is. I also know that a press release can draw the attention of an editor or journalist and prompt a reported story. But I also understand that even a PR flack has a reputation to preserve and, for example, may take care to back up stuff like the number of people attending an event with evidence like paid registration figures. But this is a subject that has gotten the attention of actual journalists for decades, page after page of articles, some may be "churnalism," but others are veritably reported stories.E.M.Gregory (talk) 16:16, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of winners[edit]

I've noticed from the history that the list of past winners has been added and deleted at least twice. Can we try to reach some sort of consensus on whether it's necessary or even useful, or not? Personally FWIW, I think it's detail overkill, esp. as it constitutes the vast majority of the article. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:23, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There wouldn't be much of an article without it. It might as well just be a redirect to Toastmasters_International#Public_speaking_championship which seems to cover the subject better than this article. Derek Andrews (talk) 01:22, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
