Different versions, different pages to my mind. Don't merge. Kerowyn 11:21, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Microsoft also released at least two alpha-test verions of the a Shell Update Release (SUR) which added the Windows 95-style desktop and taskbar, and Windows Explorer to Windows NT 3.51, it was very buggy." -- The ending ', it was very buggy.' is gramatically incorrect. As such, it makes no sense. What was buggy? Explorer? SUR? NT 3.51 in general? Someone who knows should fix. Maw 19:11, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Windows NT 3.5.png[edit]

Image:Windows NT 3.5.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

End of Support[edit]

I did a check of the end-of-support dates for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation and Windows NT 3.51 Server.

Support for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation ended on 31 December 2001 (Microsoft Support Lifecycle for Windows NT 3.51 Workstation) and support for Windows NT 3.51 Server ended on 30 September 2002 (Microsoft Support Lifecycle for Windows NT 3.51 Server).

This article mentions that support for both Windows NT 3.51 (Workstation and Server) ended on 31 December 2001 which is not correct. Do you think it's okay if I fix it? If so, please let me know. -- 74.42.181.50 (talk) 04:02, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Windows NT 3.51 picture[edit]

There's actually nothing of Windows NT 3.51 in the picture. It's showing excel and the Microsoft Office tool-bar, and not even any miniturised icons of program manager or anything. In practice, it's not much different to Windows for Workgroups 3.1, except some extra icons. --Wendy.krieger (talk) 10:45, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dates styles[edit]

Hey, guys.

Today, two editors tried to change the date style of this article from the dominant style (DMY) to MDY style.

The first is Jennica. Contesting his/her edits is Codename Lisa. To summarize their argument, I quote from User talk:Codename Lisa:

Jennica: Microsoft is an American company. [~snip~] They should be in MDY.

Codename Lisa: You are wrong on two accounts: (1) Microsoft is an International company, although Bill Gates is American. (2) There is no policy in Wikipedia that says "articles about the products of a company whose founder is American must use MDY style". Rather the policy is: Retain the date style, unless the subject of the article demonstrates strong connection to a certain nation. Windows NT has no strong connection U.S.; Microsoft sells it internationally and the subject has no connection to the U.S. that can be denied from the rest of the world.

The second editor is FlightTime. This editor has not cited a policy so far, even though he has reverted twice.

Apart from the policy, I have observed a couple of things:

  • I personally have witnessed several attempts to migrate Microsoft product articles to MDY dates with this "Microsoft is an American company" pretext. (All have failed so far. They were restored eventually.) But have never witnessed any attempt to convert an article to DMY date style on the pretext that "it is an International date style". (No country other than U.S. and Japan uses MDY dates exclusively. The rest of the world is pretty much on DMY.) The similarity of these two claims is that they are born from a willingness to dominate one's own will and that both are unsupported by a policy.
  • Microsoft Security Essentials, a Featured Article that has been excruciatingly scrutinized by our best of the best, use DMY style.

Remove website link from infobox?[edit]

The website link in the infobox does not work, and there is no archived version of it on archive.org. It won't be useful to have a dead link in the infobox. Qqwe2 (talk) 18:57, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is actually (see: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015022857/http://www.microsoft.com/windows/winhistorydesktop.mspx). The problem is that there's no mention of NT 3.51 specifically, only its predecessor NT 3.5. You'd need to click over to the Server history page to see a (brief) mention of NT 3.51: https://web.archive.org/web/20021015022303/http://www.microsoft.com/windows/winhistoryserver.mspx. Regardless, I don't think this would qualify for the purpose of the Official Website part of the infobox, so I'm removing it if there's no objection. --Sek-2 (talk) 19:19, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The hardware requirement info box is inaccurate[edit]

The article clearly states that Windows NT 3.51 runs on IA-32, Alpha, MIPS, and PowerPC architectures, yet the hardware reuirement infobox states that the OS requires "Intel 386 or 486 at 25 MHz". Either the infobox refers only to seprately boxed/sold IA-32 edition of the OS and as such needs to have that made clear or we need to update the infobox to include the Alpha, MIPS, and PowerPC architecture minimums. --Notcharliechaplin (talk) 22:38, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WinNT 3.51 Icon[edit]

@GimmeKittens:

Yes, WinNT 3.51 (& 3.5) wallpaper is flying windows

(The startup is text-mode, then blue console screen and then GUI showing Logon first)

However that image/icon you had send, that icon on top right corner there is a small line, so is aesthetically not looking good. So putting back WinNT icon (literally 16x16 desktop icon for all Win3/WinNT3 family) back.

Maybe try touch up that image and remove that small line......Thanks. --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 13:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
