This article failed its good article nomination. From a quick glance, it's clear this article was prematurely nominated. A few critiques:

Many paragraphs still lack inline citations. Many of the sources that are used are either primary sources from private organizations or low-quality in nature.
The lead includes a 2012 Census estimate for the metro area (which needs to be updated) and includes too many booster-like declarations ("Best American Riverfront", "Dozen Distinctive Destinations", "WWII Heritage City"). There's also too much emphasis on the TV/movie production and very little on the rest of the economy.
The History section is weighted too heavily towards the late 19th century, with
Spelling errors and grammar issues all over the place: "cities contribution", "the 80's", "like Blue Velvet (film)", "
Some deep copyediting is needed to fix the basic tone of the article, which is far too casual.
The NRHP subsection is just a sea of blue links with no context.
The Geography section is extremely deficient, with no description of the city's boundaries, its general locale (coordinates are not reader-friendly), its topography, and its waterways. The I-40 mention belongs in the Transportation section, while the beach belongs in the Parks and recreation section.
The Climate section needs to be converted from a list of statistics into prose.
Cityscape section needs to actually describe the "large historic district" and other major neighborhoods.
Crime data needs more context to set up the statistics tables. The second table from 2006 to 2008 is extremely out of date.
The Demographics section is lacking context.
Census estimates should not be used for detailed demographic data.
Highways need to be explained in prose instead of a list.
"Alternative transportation" is a car-centric title and should be changed to retain NPOV. Separate transit and bicycling from each other.
Government section is missing quite a lot of information: functions, number of councilmembers and how they are elected, how the mayor is chosen, the annual budget, state and federal representation, etc.
The list of mayors should be in a separate article.
Education section needs prose before the long list.
No information on Utilities?
Performing arts and Music sections are both promotional in tone. The former includes an embedded external link and a trademark symbol that both need to be removed.
The list of films needs to be curated.
Literature section is just two short notes with no context or citations.
Jazz Festival needs to be updated to reflect whether it's an annual event.
Museum and historic areas list needs to be better organized. In its current state, the list is a bit redundant to previous sections.
Media section needs fewer lists and more context. Also, another external link.
Sports section needs better organization of its prose, as it is currently disjointed.
Shopping malls and Points of interest lists need to be merged into other sections.
The notable people list is quite long and should probably be spun off into its own article with a short summary here.

I don't have time to look over the issues addressed in this laundry list. However, there's one big red flag: we say upfront that this is about the city of Wilmington, then throughout the remainder of the article, we offer a completely arbitrary definition of Wilmington which has little or nothing to do with the city. ILM isn't in city limits, the battleship isn't in city limits, I-40 doesn't enter city limits, etc. etc. The Intracoastal Waterway marks the eastern city limit, so none of the beaches are in city limits, either. The school list appears to consist of all schools in New Hanover County without regard for whether or not they're in city limits. We have separate articles on the Masonboro and Seagate CDPs, yet the watchers of those articles for years stood in the way of reflecting that those areas were annexed by Wilmington, possibly as long as 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure the Monkey Junction article still refers to a "recent" annexation attempt which actually occurred in 2008. That needs to be addressed.
