I expanded this from the stub to start class, if just barely. Several sections need still expanding, such as economy. Perhaps someone local can provide some additional information and pictures?CindyBo 22:49, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Williams Lake TimberWolves.jpg[edit]

Image:Williams Lake TimberWolves.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"Forest Capital of BC"[edit]

As per my inline comment, this is a migratory p.r. title - Lillooet used to have it in the '70s-early'80s, and a few other places since. I don't think it should be "also known as" but mentioned somewhere else; maybe a brief article about the title and the p.r. campaign it's part of?Skookum1 (talk) 16:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed that for the reasons stated, and added teh colloquial nickname (which city father's probably don't like very much, but is as true as the sky is blue; I've also heard it referred to as "the Lake" as in "you going into the Lake?"). Stampede Capital I guess is fine, though still promotional - though my question is, given that this is the only Stampede in BC (among many, many rodeos), does one stampede make a capital? I know, it's in the city's marketing materials so it's usable; it's just not somehow contextual as there are, again, no other "stampedes" in BC....well, maybe one or two but I'd like to know where.....Skookum1 (talk) 14:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cites for Billy's Puddle are in many histories of the Cariboo; Skelton's book for sure I think; also in Ma Murray editorials but none that have it are online.Skookum1 (talk) 15:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WILLIAMS LAKE?[edit]

How come there isnt an article on the the actual lake? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.194.133.9 (talk) 05:09, 8 May 2013 (UTC) There is.... Williams_Lake_(British_Columbia). You're welcome. 96.50.233.155 (talk) 14:33, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I just added a site to that (from BC Names) and corrected its coords; the claim that it is the lowest lake in the Cariboo is debatable; the full extent of the Cariboo varies with perception; but it could be that it is a lower elevation than e.g. Pavilion Lake or lakes in the Clinton area; some have included Kamloops as the SE limit of the Cariboo, which would put Kamloops Lake in the running; Lillooet has long held itself to be part of the Cariboo; Seton Lake is decidedly lower than Williams Lake (the lake). I didn't add a cite tag for the water temperature or a hydrographical cite, there are plenty of water studies out there to be used to expand the article; as with certain other cases, and in the absence of sufficient material to write about the lake, the parenthetical dab was pointed at the city article.Skookum1 (talk) 15:36, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Changed CBC Radio One from AM 860 – CBRL, CBC Radio One to FM 92.1 – CBRL, CBC Radio One. CBC ceased broadcasting on AM 860 in the Williams Lake area prior to 7 December 2017, when they began broadcasting from FM 92.1.Jrradney (talk) 02:46, 31 January 2018 (UTC) Made several minor edits to fix dead links, and provide in-text citations for some facts. Also, I changed the beginning of the history of Williams Lake to reflect recent decisions by the Supreme Court of Canada concerning relations between early settlers and the original inhabitants of the area. Removing Stampede and Rick Hansen from opening lead[edit]

I removed the paragraph that mentioned the Williams Lake Stampede and Rick Hansen from the opening lead of the page. The information seems redundant given that it is already mentioned in the main article. That paragraph has existed in some form in the lead for more than a decade and was never removed as the information was expanded in the rest of the article.
