Problem[edit]

There is an article called William "the Coalheaver" Huntington..... £$%$"%$"!!

Très frustrating. Not sure how much of that stuff will be salvageable ... I'll work on it tomorrow. Am inclined to rewrite any usable bits and cite in the normal way, even though the text of that book is PD. For ref, Here is the first page of the text (p219); it continues to p231. The two articles give significantly contradictory birth years (1745 and 1774; nearly 30 years difference) and seem to be significantly different in content. Can we be sure they are the same person? 1745 seems to come from a reliable source (NPG) ... I'm guessing his life might have been sanitised, but I havent got very reliable sources for him being illegitimate or of his child. Experience says you can only go with the reliable sources and note where there is unresolvable issues. If you have no POV then you can write no POV... Bingo! He has an Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry with lots of info and the birth year of 1745. Link (needs subscription or library card access – Vic, not sure if you can access this). Very reliable source. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 10:22, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge and H/DNB[edit]

With due modesty this article contains a multitude of sources injcluding now the\DNB view found by H. So I'm intending to delete the other article and redirect it here. As noted the text of that article is available online anyway and it adds little value. Oh and ... H.... you're doing a great job. Do slash and burn if required! Probably the best idea: I read the other one but couldn't see very much of a salvageable nature. That book, while entertaining, isn't the most reliable source ever (the birthdate calamity was undoubtedly not the only error!) I realised that I had lost the chance of taking this to DYK. However...! My plan is to create one for Sir James Sanderson and use WH as a hook. Do make a minor edit of James Sanderson Bt Hassocks. Father?[edit]

The article currently states "It is said that his father was William Hunt—his mother's husband's employer—despite his mother's marriage to Barnabus Russel." That seems the wrong way around. Wasn't the the family name (after the husband) 'Hunt'? And the employer 'Russell'? Could someone with access to the quoted source (DNB) check? The Paisley reference suggests husband:Hunt, father:Russell, and that sounds more plausible. (There is also a 'Russel' (one 'l') vs. 'Russell' (two 'l') discrepancy.) Thanks. For those who like trivia. The first DNB says he was born at "Four Wents" and we know that his father was a farmer. I used Geograph and there is just one farm today at a place called Four Wents in Kent. I thought about writing an article, but the place is quite small ... and there would obviously be no more info on such a small farm .... but there is! Its operated by four people and if you search around you can find there tonnage of hops for the last four years. So if there is interest?
