The same meaning?[edit]

  • Wicked can be used as a slang term meaning "very" or "extremely." This use is most common in New England and Upstate New York. Example: "Wicked cool!"
  • Wicked as an adverb meaning "very" originated in Puritanical New England with the idea that anything that was fun, exciting or good was "wicked".

Aren't both of those meanings pretty much the same? Maybe I'm missing something. --MatthewUND(talk) 06:20, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. So I deleted the second one. 72.196.104.129 08:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemon Netbattler[edit]

Wicked (Pokemon Netbattler), Runs a server called Dark Tournament on Pokemon NetBattle that is known for its tournament script which was taken from someone else. Known for discussing his gothic lifestyle and befriends fellow players online often meeting them in real life. I don't know much about this, but it looks out of place to me, and seems to border on advertising. It also needs rephrasing. garik 16:03, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology[edit]

That whole candle wick thing sounds highly suspicious to me. Unless a citation is provided, I suggest it be removed. TheJames 14:22, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Strict definition?[edit]

I can't find a reference, but I think wicked is to be defined as something as follows:

A person who knowingly does bad things, and takes pleasure from doing them.

Hence it is not the same as evil i.e. a person who does something believing it the right thing to do, when really, it is wrong.

So by this standard, many people are evil, but few wicked, and wicked is thus worse than evil.

Ex. a brainwashed person, say a political ideologue, may kill people, but since (s)he acts from values that are not "normal", does this thinking it is the "right" thing to do. They may also take no joy in doing it. This contrasts with a wicked person, say a serial killer, who knows what he is going to do is wrong in every sense of the word, yet takes pleasure (often great) in doing it.

Porn studio?[edit]

I'm no prude, and obviously enwiki is wp:NOTCENSORED. But it does seem a little strange that the first thing listed after use as a word is a porn studio. It seems to me much more likely that people would be searching for more mainstream uses, like the book/musical, books, or albums. Is there a way to make this more sensical? TV show[edit]

Wicked (TV series) appears to be missing, some details at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0341997/ may create later. ScratchMarshall (talk) 04:59, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
