Centerparcs[edit]

Whinfell Forest exists independently of Centerparcs. Centerparcs is a tenant of the Lowther Estates who own the forest. I've re-inserted some material that had been deleted when information about Centerparcs was added, and done some slight restructuring to reinstate the difference between the forest and the holiday village. At User talk:Arthur7171, Georgeduckers asks "What is Made at Whinfell Forest, please publish on the page?". Historically, the forest produced traditional goods including timber, heather and bracken. It also contained a number of quarries. After enclosure, it was given over to farming until the central area, now containing Centerparcs, was re-planted with conifers. Today, the main products are tourism (Centerparcs again, but also some public rights of way for forest walks) and timber. The farms are mainly dairy but also some pigs. The pig farm has the interesting name Julian Bower but I have no evidence it was ever the site of a turf maze. It was originally created to support the Keeper. In future, I may try to add some of this to the article but for now I have no sources and no time! (Northernhenge (talk) 12:05, 1 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Photos added[edit]

I've added a couple of photos - one of Centerparcs chalets and one of a quarry and drystone wall. (I forgot to login so they have a shared IP.) The photos were taken from the Cliburn road on the western edge of Centerparcs but well within the traditional boundaries of the forest.
