Notability in question, promotional[edit]

Of the 17 references as of this edit of 20:15, 8 May 2013, 11 are clearly not usable to establish notability. Another 3 are either (temporarily?) dead or require watching a video to judge. 3 are likely to be considered reliable sources for notability purposes, but that's just a first glance. Even these may not survive deeper scrutiny.

The bulk of the 11 "clearly not notable" references are pages where the company or its products were mentioned "in passing" (i.e. "trivial" coverage), pages that are mini-product reviews/listings which don't amount to "significant" coverage, pages which are obviously promotional in nature, or pages which are very likely "not" independent of the subject matter or its company.

This article would be much better if it were trimmed significantly and focused only on the significant coverage from sources independent of the company, giving only a short, pro-forma mention of key products that were not mentioned in significant, independent coverage and no mention of non-key products that lacked such coverage.

If such changes are not made, it is likely this will be nominated for deletion as overly promotional and lacking clear notability for a company or organization.

As requested by Wikipedia moderators, I changed the username from WhereverTV to 2013Mao. I have never written an article for Wikipedia before, but I am not related to WhereverTV. I created the username WhereverTV as I didn't know that was not allowed. I have removed any promotional phrases or non-neutral point of view statements from the summary. I have also added new sources of information I found at http://www.wherever.tv/html/allnews.jsf and by searching Google for information about the Company.

In regards to the old references listed above. Please see my comments below. Of the 11 references suggested to be removed, 8 have been deleted and/or replaced. Here is a summary of what was done to each of the old references. Please provide any additional feedback you feel is necessary to clear comments.

REMOVED 1. ^ Michal Kaczmarski (December 2011). "From Steel to Silicon". fdiIntelligence.com. Retrieved 05 February 2013.
URL: http://www.wherever.tv/html/pdf/FDISteelToSiliconDec2011.pdf . Source appears to be designed to promote topics it covers, coverage of WhereverTV in this article is incidental.

REMOVED 2. ^ WhereverTV (12 December 2012). "WhereverTV for GoogleTV". Google.com. Retrieved 05 February 2013.

URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=wherever.google.tv . Promotional and not independent of subject

REMOVED 3. ^ Mark Cavicchia (10 July 2006). "Global Interactive program guide application and device". Google.com. Retrieved 05 February 2013.

LEFT IN - INDEPENDENT RELIABLE SOURCE 4. ^ http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/07/wherevertv-wants-1-200-channel-piece-of-the-mobile-tv-pie/

Essentially a pre-release product review in a trade web site, based on http://www.textually.org/picturephoning/archives/2007/08/017102.htm , which in turn is based on http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/tribpm/s_524744.html . While the last one does have a hint of "promotion" to it, it is very likely independent and the source is likely at least borderline-reliable. Maybe

LEFT IN – LARGE, CREDIBLE INDEPENDENT SOURCE (#50 in world by Alexa.com) - THIS WAS AN UNSCHEDULED INTERVIEW BY A SOHU REPORTER AFTER PRODUCT RELEASE PRESS CONFERENCE at SINOCES in Qingdao 5. ^ Sohu Digital (09 July 2008). "看遍天下电视 WhereverTV机顶盒国内前途未卜". sohu.com. Retrieved 06 February 2013.

"This Sohu digital Kewei Qi, founder and CEO of WhereverTV video interview." Impossible to tell if this interview is "hard" or promotional in nature without watching the video, which I did not.

REMOVED 6. Netesse Digital (09 July 2008). "快讯:2008中国国际消费电子博览会即将开幕". tech.163.com. Retrieved 06 February 2013.

REMOVED 7. ^ Dan Appleman (26 December 2009). "This TV Box Pulls Channels from Around the World". Philadelphia Examiner.

www fullstop examiner period com/article/this-tv-box-pulls-channels-from-around-the-world . While this product review does have a hint of "promotion" to it, it is very likely independent and the source is likely at least borderline-reliable. LEFT IN – INDEPDENT, CREDIBLE SOURCE 8. ^ Jonathan B. Spira (July 2011). "Internet TV Almost Ready for Prime Time". spectrum.ieee.org. Retrieved 06 February 2013.

URL: http://spectrum.ieee.org/geek-life/tools-toys/internet-tv-almost-ready-for-prime-time/0 . This review, combined with others, may put this device, but not necessarily the company, over the edge regarding notability. Maybe

Appears to be a run of the mill product review, no contribution to notability. Likely reason it exists in Polish is that a Polish reporter was covering the International Consumer Electronics Show that year.

Editor with similar username is not connected[edit]

The edits in the early edit history with a name similar to this company's name are by an editor who has no connection to the company other than as a customer, so I removed the {{COI}} and {{connected contributor}} templates. See this pair of edits on his talk page for details. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 16:24, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure this was handled right; their only edits before they went back into hiding were for this...and how the heck did this talk page redirect 15 days earlier than this whole 'totally not a corporate account, srsly' get by you? Nate (chatter) 00:53, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
