Notable Alumni

There needs to be some criteria for what makes an alumnus/alumna noteworthy (or an alumnus/alumna to begin with eg EA Diddle, John Carpenter). Maybe there should also be a minimum time between graduating and being named notable (with exceptions allowed). There are a lot of athletes listed who are by all means good, they wouldn't be playing professionally if they were not, but have they done anything noteworthy? If every University listed every graduate who went on to play a sport professionally... well, it would be ridiculous.

An example of a noteworthy sports alumnus: Romeo Crennel, "participated in six Super Bowls, winning five, during his coaching career."

An example of a sports almunus who has retired from a professional career: Virgil Livers, Played from 1975-1979 with the Chicago Bears.

Maybe a lot of notable things are missing from Virgil's wikipedia article. Maybe real Bear-buffs know about his 1978 season?

I don't know that there are any hard-and-fast standards, but it's been my experience that inclusion has been pretty liberal. I usually look for "Does this person have a wiki-article that has survived or is likely to survive AfD?" or, failing that, "Has the editor added a reference that indicates that such an article could likely be created?" When these lists get very long, they usually get split into a separate article (e.g. List of Western Kentucky University alumni). Ideally, that list would include criteria for inclusion as part of the lead. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 14:58, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Athletics

The Athletics section needs to be revised. Many new things have happened. They are renovating their football stadium, building a new track facility, and the lady hilltoppers basketball team made it to the finals in the wnit last year.(68.32.109.8 10:41, 14 September 2006 (UTC))

Removed section about MTSU moving to CUSA as it is not relevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.6.67.25 (talk) 01:53, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Split

There is no need to split at this time: 1) The article is not so large as to require splitting 2) The section is not so large that it dominates the article 3) The section is not a "Coatrack" 4) The section if split would not be independently notable Op47 (talk) 13:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Bolding in History Section

There are a number of school names bolded in the history section. Looking at other articles about universities, I don't believe that's standard. Before I edit it out, is it supposed to be bold, italics, or plain? Should there be quotes around the names? Wyronth (talk) 13:37, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

VAMPY

I've just blanked and redirected a page called VAMPY to this article. It's apparently a not particularly notable education program run by the university. (see this earlier version). If anyone feels motivated enough to write a line about it here, please feel free, as it'll help to justify the WP:REDIRECT. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 22:47, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
