ref numbers[edit]

I added a new ref to the town council website, but for some reason that I don't understand, it is giving it the same number (1) in the article body as the template ref to population. I hope someone knows how to fix this please. Derek Andrews 13:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see this problem now so I presume it's resolved.— Rod talk 13:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OR tag[edit]

I have done some work that I think goes some way to fixing the original research problems, mainly by making wikilinks to other articles, though of course they are not all that well referenced either. Outstanding issues IMO are:

  • relationship to outlying villages, especially rockwell green.
  • financial woes of the aerosol company. maybe this should just be deleted?
  • the council website also mentions cloth making and furniture making.

Anyone? Derek Andrews 13:14, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What else is needed to get this article to GA?[edit]

I've been editing this article to try to bring it closer to the guidelines at WP:UKCITIES and would be interested in what other editors think is need to get it to meet the Wikipedia:Good article criteria? Obviously we need to reference (or remove) the uncited claims, but is there anything else which would be required?— Rod talk 08:17, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I will make straightforward copyedits as I go. Please revert if I accidentally change the meaning. I will jot queries below. Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:45, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Any explanation of the original derivation of the name?
  • I've expanded one and added another - but these are very rarely clear cut
  • The first three paras of the History section are a little stubby/slim, so any extra info here would be most welcome. For instance (as there is no article on the fire) are there any details about how/why the fire came about? How much of a centre for clothmaking was it? for the West Country/south of England/England etc.
  • Added some bits

  • Theoretically, are all the Wellingtons around the world derived (indirectly) from here?
  • I think so but I don't think I'd ever find a reliable source which stated this categorically
  • In the 20th century closer links with Taunton meant that many of the residents of Wellington commuted there for work, and the M5 motorway enabled car journeys to be made more easily - this reads a little vague. Be nice to expand this a little, some dates and figures etc.
  • I've added dates for M5
  • Para 2 of Governance section - be nice to add if historically the town is left- or right-leaning (if available)
  • Not sure on this one
  • Rockwell Green is a formerly-independent village to the west of the town and while there is a green wedge of land in between them...... "what?" I think you left something out after the last bit.
  • Reworded
  • There are Local Nature Reserves at Wellington Basins.. -anything special about them? i.e. why are they reserves?
  • Expanded with descriptions & species etc
  • Any idea where the influx in the Demography section came from? London? nearby villages? Also any information on demographic makeup?
  • Not sure at present
  • Para 1 of Economy section is awry - should put historical info first before 2009 developments. Also, as it is historically important is there other info to add. Any other notable companies or other clothmaking factoids to go here?
  • The info is about Fox Brothers Mill (1770s) with the modern bit added - moving the dragons den stuff to the end would separate info re cloth making
  • Be nice to flesh out the transport section a little. Any other road info to add?
  • added A38, but I've not got anything else at present.— Rod talk 16:48, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, that's it for starters. Be back later. :) Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:11, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mantle Street[edit]

There is no source for the Mantle Street story other than something my father told me a few years ago. However, a Google search for Mantle Street brings up results solely referring to the Mantle Street in Wellington (some articles wrongly place it in Wiveliscombe, but its the same one). Is this enough? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lenzar (talkcontribs) 16:56, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. It is original research, which is not permitted on WIkipedia. Plus it is trivial so I would question whether it belonged even if it were properly sourced. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 17:07, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Surely the idea of Wikipedia was to get every little bit of human knowledge together. Supressing things because they are 'trivial' would go against this? Lenzar (talk) 17:34, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
