Height data[edit]

I have corrected the height data for Wayne Hennessey, replacing a dead link with a link to Prremier League. The height given was 1.83m, but I flipped the display as the original (incorrect) height was in feet and inches. I would prefer to remove the disp=flip coding. Any comments? Michael Glass (talk) 07:50, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Coding removed. Michael Glass (talk) 01:52, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is a pity that the height data has now become such a football. All this could have been prevented if Speccy4eyes had asked first before changing the data. Michael Glass (talk) 00:30, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was you who changed it without being told you could. You changed it to meters first on Dec 20. All I did was change it to feet & inches first like we do it in England. You are just trying to get me into trouble. Speccy4Eyes (talk) 16:48, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speccy4eyes, please read the comments above. On 13 December I made a proposal to change the units and why, and asked for comments. I then waited until 20 December before changing the data as proposed.
Now let's look at your actions. You changed the data without notice on 30 December, a change that PeeJay2K3 reverted. You then changed the data again and this was promptly reverted by QED237.
I'm not blaming you for disagreeing with my edit. However, the proper procedure in this case would be to take your objection to the talk page, explain why you wanted to revert my edit and ask for comments. See [1] . Michael Glass (talk) 03:24, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I changed it back because you had no consensus! Nobody agreed with your changes so you had no business making them. It is you who have broken the rules not me. The rules there say Any editor who systematically changes values from one system of measurement to another without clear consensus, who edit-wars over such a change, who disrupts talk page discussions or normal Wikipedia processes pertaining to units in UK-related articles, who engages in forum-shopping, or who otherwise disruptively edits may be sanctioned by an uninvolved administrator. Who is the uninvolved administrator they need to sanction you for doing all that. Then you try to lecture me! Speccy4Eyes (talk) 10:00, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Two other editors have reversed your edit back to the version I edited. Three editors have disagreed with your edit. You do not have consensus for your edit. You have come close to edit warring over your edit. I regard your present behaviour as disruptive. If you believe that you have a case to make, by all means find an uninvolved administrator and find out what happens. However, in all fairness, I do not believe you have a leg to stand on. Michael Glass (talk) 10:15, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As you may know I agree, since the source and official league uses metric system. Also both is shown anyway so lets display what the source say. QED237 (talk) 20:33, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
WP:UNITS specifies feet first for English or Welsh people never mind what your chosen source gives. Sources can be found using either meters or feet first or one type of unit only and that is not the point. Most English news and TV and books give feet only or feet first. The argument for meters first flying in the face of WP:UNITS here is very weak and seems to be based on private views and preference rather than the actual rules. No other explanation for defying WP:UNITS has yet been given. The PFA Who's Who book gives his height in feet only, and that's official. The PL are not owners of his personal data and are not the official source of it so they do not dictate Wiki content. Stick with the WP:UNITS advice please. Primary units[edit]

WP:UNITS requires that for UK related articles "the primary units for personal height and weight are feet/inches and stones/pounds". I propose to change this article to observe that requirement unless a good reason not follow the guideline can be given. That a certain source uses certain units is not a valid reason as the guideline recommends using the "flip" option in such circumstances. Speccy4Eyes (talk) 17:10, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As the majority of rugby profiles are metric first, and as rugby teams give their information in metric units it would be more sensible to leave the order of units as they are. Please see the tenth footnote to the MOSNUM policy. [2] Of course, if you felt that this was not satisfactory you could take up this issue with MOSNUM. Wikipedia Stats on goalkeepers[edit]

It is mad that wiki shows goals scored as the stat for all players including goalkeepers. Would be way better to show clean sheets. 2404:4408:873C:F400:50C0:D5F1:52BA:5568 (talk) 21:06, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hardly any other goalkeeper articles have clean sheets stats for seasons so they are omitted. Plus some players in that position have scored goals anyway including Wayne himself. Best for those stats tables on goalkeepers should remain the same layout. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:47, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
