Untitled[edit]

Hi everyone, I am looking for assistance with updating this article to include more factual information about the bank. Due to my conflict of interest, I will refrain from implementing any of these edits immediately. I have a new draft that adds some information on basic services, locations and some bank history. The current article is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Trust_Bank. Please reference the new draft here: [1]

Hi Jason. Your proposed draft needs more citations to independent sources, i.e. ones that have no connection to Washington Trust Bank, no press releases either. Claims that wealth management is achieved through "independent and objective decisions based strictly on financial merit" could be contentious and need to be backed up by a stronger source than the bank's own words. Also, watch out for "red flag phrases", wordings that are frequently used in press releases, but are not appropriate for an encyclopedia. These promotional terms include phrases such as "family-owned." Just as importantly, beware of sentences that sound vaguely positive, but don't actually tell the reader anything specific: I haven't seen many instances of this form of writing in your draft, but it frequently occurs with conflict-of-interest editing, so this is just a heads-up in case you expand the draft later. Such sentences should be condensed and written more tersely. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 18:44, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Altamel, thank you for all the helpful feedback! Definitely want to get this right. Please see a revised draft here: . I’ve replaced any citations to Washington Trust Bank press releases or website with those from independent, third-party sources. I’ve also removed the promotional language you mentioned. Are there any additional revisions that you’d like me to make before uploading the current draft? Just let me know and I’ll change accordingly.

@JasonWTB: The new revision is much better. You've done an exemplary job of removing any hint of promotionalism from the draft. Just two issues I would like to see fixed before I approve this draft:
  • As a general rule to avoid copyright infringement, sentences cited from other websites must be rewritten before they are added to Wikipedia. In your draft, the final sentence closely resembles the first sentence of the Spokane Journal article that it references. This is probably too minor to actually count as a copyvio, but to err on the side of caution, I would like to see this sentence rewritten.
  • Please convert the citations you have written out with brackets (e.g. [3]) into in-line footnotes. On the Visual Editor, when you click "edit", the top toolbar has a button with a double quotation mark and the word "Cite". This button will open up an interface for adding a citation, and then click on the "Manual" tab on the interface box, and select website. You can now fill in the applicable fields and the Visual Editor will generate an inline citation for you. Alternatively, you can also create footnotes with wiki-markup on the normal editor. <ref>{{cite web| last = | first = | authorlink = | coauthors = | title = | work = | publisher = | date = | url = | accessdate = }}</ref> is a citation template you can copy, paste, and fill in the applicable fields.
Thanks for the improvements on the draft. Altamel (talk) 05:36, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
