HISTORY[edit]

1450 AM was originally known as WSPB and served the city of Sarasota from the late 1930's to 1980's under that call sign. WSPB was one of the first radio stations on Florida's west coast to run hourly news at the top of the hour. Photographs from the 1940's exist of the station showing an extensive staff for news and community involvement. However, by the 1980's WSPB was playing classical music largely on an automated basis. In the late 1980's it was a simulcast of an oldies station, and in the late 1990's was largely simulcasting Tampa's WFLA under the call sign WSRQ (largely a redundant effort, as WFLA could largely be heard throughout most of Sarasota at 970kHz). During this period, WSRQ ran the Jerry Springer show, one of the few Air America programs to be broadcast on Florida's west coast.

In the 2000's Clear Channel dropped the simulcast and established the current WSDV with an easy listening format that attempted to pick up the audience dropped by 92.1 mHz, which adopted a more adult contemporary sound.
