Proposed move of WASO (AM) to this page[edit]

Removal of speedys[edit]

It seems unclear to me in this case which is the 'primary topic', unlike the other examples of this where one of the links on the disambig page was based on a semi-obscure airport code and the radio station obviously was the 'primary topic'. Therefore I think this needs some discussion. Personally I think it hinges on how often the Orchestra is actually referred to as WASO in Australlia. If it is commonly referred to by this name I would suggest that neither is obviously the primary topic and this disambiguation page should stay as it is. If it's not commonly referred to as 'WASO' then I'd agree with the proposed change. Either way I think a specific consensus needs to be reached first - not just a general consensus as this case is obviously different to the airport cases. Rationale for deletion of disambiguation page[edit]

I've copied the following from the radio station talk page as the speedy's proposers rationalle. Dpmuk (talk) 11:55, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Per the WP:Disambig page, "If only a primary topic and one other topic require disambiguation, then disambiguation links are sufficient, and a disambiguation page is unnecessary." Since the radio station call letters are the primary identification and the acronym for the premier professional orchestra of the state of Western Australia is a secondary identification, a hat note is sufficient and requires no more steps than would a disambiguation page for people seeking the orchestra. - Dravecky (talk) 08:32, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • IMHO WASO - should remain a disambig doing a google search only 2 of the first 50/205,000 hits arent to the Symphony orchestra the first one of these is to[1] hottalk radio which says HoTTalk Radio is "Where America Speaks Out" and the next is to an employment organisation in Winnipeg[2]. Also http://www.waso.com.au/ is the website of the orchestra, given this its reasonable to say that the Orchestra is the primary user of WASO, as WASO is how its referred to but as WASO is an acronym thats set offical roots during the last 20 odd years, I think retaining WASO as a dab is the way to go. • Did you by any chance use Australlian google because I think that would have biased your results a bit. That said UK google doesn't make one more obviously the primary than the other either. Dpmuk (talk) 13:12, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • DOH! ah hm yeah ok retry from google.commie rather then google.com.aussie, ok ignore my earlier ramble as WASO being more likely symphony orchestra it does return a broader spectrum of possibilities not just these two on the first page besides the three I mentioned it has "Winchester Area Schools' Orchestras and Choirs" using WASO as well as "World All Styles Org" that makes different users of WASO when excluding wikipedia. It still returns 3 hits to the orchestra, 2 to the employment, with one each to the radio, school and the martial arts org. Its still clear that the radio station isnt the primary user of WASO Gnangarra 14:03, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have no objection to maintaining the disambiguation page if WASO is a widely-used acronym for the orchestra. It seems "Waso" may also be a month in the Buddhist calendar so a disambiguation page may be required in any case. - Dravecky (talk) 17:45, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
