Phonemicity[edit]

I do not understand the comment "It is not known to occur as a phoneme in any language". In Italian, you would say "aglio" (garlic) as /ˈaʎ̝ʎ̝o/ -- if you pronounced it as /ˈaʎʎo/ (as many Italian speakers actually do: apparently it's not an easy sound to produce), it could be transliterated as "ajjo", meaning something like 'ouch!'. This is the first example that comes to my mind.

The point is that wherever it occurs it does not contrast with any more common sound. --JorisvS (talk) 17:54, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
