News article about mass character deletion[edit]

Interesting: http://www.mmorpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=44413 - Stoph 06:51, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's just a reprint of the News from the official site ([1]). Yes, the devs made a mistake. This is, however, the first time that anything of this sort has happened since the game opened up for pre-alpha testing in mid-2002. --Roguelazer 04:16, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe this is typical of minor video game articles on Wikipedia, but this article amounts to little other than an advertisement for the game. After being a public product for 2 years, this game still is fraught with annoying problems with the user interface. Conversely, this article doesn't really mention any of the cool things about the game either, like the designers' bravery in designing a game with somewhat realistic (and therefore unfamiliar) space flight. Similarly, the WGAF article is also very bad. From WGAF, quote: "WGAF also has unique network code. All data is sent over UDP instead of TCP, allowing for packets to arrive out-of-sequence..." This is an incredibly uninformed statement. No commercial game uses TCP to send time-critical info to clients, they ALL use UDP.

The feature list[edit]

There. Now you have some information on the different aspects of the game, at least. Advertisement it might be still, but it is also true. - Ayjona - 18:34, 5 Nov 2006 (GMT+1)

I did a thorough cleanup of the page, since someone had added many points under the "Planned" section that really belonged to "Present", or had been mentioned before. Some items where moved, others deleted. The whole VO page here on Wikipedia had become rather confusing, what with features mentioned in the "Present" list also being mentioned under "Planned", and some features mentioned twice (such as player-controllable capital ships). Hope no one takes any kind of simulated or real offense at my editing ;-) - Ayjona - 01:47, 5 Sep 2007 (GMT+1)

Not sure where else to put this, but it looks like it goes under here. I understand the article has undergone some major changes, but I also felt the actual gameplay features could use some more description. As such, I added some paragraphs to "Long Term Objectives" with headers in bold; topics include Conquerable Stations (already in place), Capture the Cargo (CtC), Race Tracks, and Deneb War. I'm open to suggestions on formatting. Psychonautical1 (talk) 17:40, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Information Removed[edit]

I had found the detailed description of VO, including things like missions, quite interesting and useful, so I think removing so much material makes the article much less valuable, especially for someone who is not already immersed in that and similar games. Where does description end and advertising begin? szpak 15:16, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks a bit like advertising[edit]

I'm playing Vendetta Online and like this game in general. I even agree it could be worth to pay for it. But article makes emphasis on good sides. But no any drawbacks listed so neutrality of this article is questionable. I will try to write criticism section so article is more balanced. Feel free to rework it but do not delete it just because it harms someone's profits. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.210.145.118 (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A bit? I think that's an understatement. --81.58.235.32 (talk) 10:48, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added the large present and planned features sections simply because they are all true. They are not written in the style commonly associated with advertisement or commercial propaganda, and avoids the use of diction and tone commonly used in such works. If you read through the list carefully, beyond the initial reaction against someone listing (perceived) strong points of a game, you will see that every word does reflect a gameplay feature, and is intended to describe that feature, and that no unnecessary, rhetoric or overly colourful adjectives are used. The sentence "the game is still considered to be in beta status by both its users and its developers, and many defining qualities are still only in the stages of early planning." is an example of neutrality and honesty in the text.
Expressions such as "Dynamic economy", "Large-scale, fast pvp", ""infinite advancement system" and "Independent NPCs" are not emotive, value charged or used for dramatic effect, but the actual expressions used in order to describe this kind of gameplay, with no inherent values or qualities. However, they make the process of deciding what MMOs to play so much easier for MMO veterans, who can relate to these expressions, and who know immediatedly what kind of gameplay elements they describe.
To put it simply: no words or expressions are used for effect or in order to impress, but only to describe the features already present in the game. If the feature list sounds too good to be true, it is a personal assessment of the reader, not the intention of me, and the others, who have added features to the list.
I am also not in any way associated with Guild Software, the developers and publishers of Vendetta Online.
I'd also welcome a section on drawbacks and criticism. I don't feel qualified to write it myself, since I am very fond of the type of MMO Vendetta Online represents (dynamic, open world, hardcore principles and twitch gaming), but it would be very interesting to see someone with a different perspective list shortcomings and pitfalls in the gameplay. Such a section would be far more critical and detailed than if I write it myself. - Ayjona (talk) 18:14, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PCC Versus Development[edit]

The previous version of the article made it sound like the PCC were primarily responsible for developing the game. I moved the former content to a new section titled 'Player Contribution Corps' and included a new 'Development' section, referencing some additional sources and fleshing out the descriptions a little. World[edit]

Added a new section titled "World", moved the "Backstory" subsection under here and added a new subsection called "Galactic Trade Standard". GTS is an important dimension of the game world in my opinion because it is a unique aspect of Vendetta that sets it apart from other MMORPGs, and should be included in the article.Psychonautical1 (talk) 18:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Vendetta Online. Please take a moment to review my edit.
