Pictures

I had posted several pictures from around campus and someone took it upon themselves to remove them. It would be a good idea to create a section for photos that don't interfere with the content in the article. Perhaps a separate entry with photos?

pics? no pics? too many pics?

feel free to improve on the formatting...

they are nice, but I wish they could be a bit bigger. UNM is a beautiful area... --fpo 02:54, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
agreed, but having trouble finding any. I could go take some when I get back to town, but that would require learning how to use my stupid camera... - Laz 03:11, 4 Aug 2005
Maybe move all 5 to the bottom. --fpo 00:10, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Sheesh, Zach, you could have given fair warning since all the pics were easily licensable.

Hey guys, if pictures are still an issue, I live near the campus and can take decent pics. You can look at my pic of the duck pond I just put up.

I put the smaller picture of the duck pond, that was in the same spot as mine is now, in the gallery. But now the gallery is bigger...Will that be an issue? It looks okay to me, but I just wanna be sure... PerryPlanet 06:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Alumni cat created

Category:University of New Mexico alumni. Needs to be populated. -- Y not? 15:58, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Article needs a "Research" section

Not sure how to best start it or where to get properly sourced information. There are a number of research centers, which could and should be mentioned in this section. Such as those listed here: http://www.unm.edu/research.html

David Banks-Richardson

He was listed in the alumni section as the discover of Uranus. Whatever he might have done to be notable, he most certainly did not discover Uranus, which was discovered by Herschel in the 18th century. If indeed he is a notable alumni. feel free to put him back, but mention the true reason for his notability. Wschart 03:53, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Notable people

I've tagged this section as needing additional sources. I will remove the names that are not sourced either here or in the linked-to Wikipedia articles. Thanks! →Wordbuilder (talk) 16:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Disagreement on content

  1. [[1]]Editors disagree about amount of content. And placement on list.

The original content occupied one line of text.

Other person edited my contribution. Removed all the external hyperlinks to the source material. Placed "Edward Abby" back on line 1.
This is the extent of information.

After I found notes on the edit, I shortened the length of text shorter than other material on same page, same section. (see 1. below)

(2. below) List was not "alphabetized" to beginning
I revised again:

and sent the below note to person not likeing my work, as follows.

Revised - Thank you
1. The content I added uses 133 Characters and 22 words. 80% of the white space. On the Same line:

The above content contained two links, 139 Characters and 21 Words.

2. The list was and is not "now alphabetized as it should be". see below.

  1. Edward Abbey
  2. John Willard Baker,
  3. Preston Dennard,
  4. Rudolfo Anaya,
  5. Warren J. Baker,
  6. Hank Baskett,
  7. Andrew Boyens

Again - it was edited. 1. Removed information directly tying Person to the University, "Lobo Runner WAC Cross-Country Championships" 2. Remove all links except one internal link. 3. Made no attempt to compromise on the amount or content.

This is OK

or this

  • Michael Cooper, former NBA basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, 1987 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 5 time NBA Champion, Current coach of the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA

and this is not?

This is more readable

I do not see a problem with either material.Oneeno (talk) 05:35, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

3PO A third opinion was requested. The discussion has only just begun and there are more than 2 editors involved here, so this is not an issue for 3PO. If the discussion does not achieve consensus, an RFC may be in order. NJGW (talk) 05:41, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

The issue I have is, nearly the entire line is blue and most of the links are external. Further, there is an article on the subject; if readers are interested, they can click to find out more. There is no need to go into many details here. Finally, even though the list had become unalphabetized before the addition, that does not mean is should remain that way. →Wordbuilder (talk) 16:19, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Explain why the content I add is the exception to the example?
In addition to that noted above, here again is what is on the same page. This entry has 14 words. More than half,(8) are "blue"

Then there is the detail issue!

  • Michael Cooper, former NBA basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, 1987 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 5 time NBA Champion, Current coach of the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA

Yet neither are edited . . .
Edited to:

  • John Willard Baker (1944-1970) Lobo Runner WAC Cross-Country Championships, Coach, Television movie "A Shining Season"

Oneeno (talk) 00:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Zero of the links in the Kenny Thomas entry are external. That's the difference. The new entry for Baker looks good. I think "Lobo" should be removed since, as a UNM alum, that goes without saying. The name of the movie also needs to be italicized, not placed in quotes. →Wordbuilder (talk) 00:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I have an additional question. The description for Baker states, in part, "WAC Cross-Country Championships". Did he merely run in the competition or did he place? If he did not place, it is sufficient to simply state that he was a runner. →Wordbuilder (talk) 14:51, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

  • John Willard Baker (1944-1970) Lobo's WAC Mile Champion & two time Cross-Country Championship, Coach, Television movie A Shining Season

Elizabeth Lambert

Why is the Elizabeth Lambert content being removed? DarkStarHarry (talk) 03:45, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

I didn't remove it, but the bad conduct of one student-athlete should not reflect on the university as a whole. It is not notable for this article. →Wordbuilder (talk) 16:49, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Overuse of images

We don't need a picture of every building on campus. We had as many images as would fit, and somebody added a pic of Tight. We cannot start squeezing text between images or otherwise having too many images in this article. Something needs to be left out, or a gallery of buildings needs to be created and all the building pics put in it.

Also, please do not use manual sizing on images. Putting "upright" on the pic of Tight serves the same purpose and doesn't override individual preferences. Also, left-placed images are supposed to indent third-level or higher headings, but right-placed images should go inside a section, after the heading, and not be placed before a heading or at the end of the previous section. I've had all the image sizing and placement in accordance with image use policy. Any added images must also conform to policy. If that can't be done, they should be left out. Yworo (talk) 14:32, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

If the buildings and architecture are so important, somebody should create a Buildings of the University of New Mexico campus article and get them all out of this article. Yworo (talk) 14:38, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

I agree with everything you wrote. There needs to be a proper text-image balance in the article. For the additional pictures, a gallery should be created on Commons. →Wordbuilder (talk) 17:03, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

"U" hillside letter

Can someone confirm that the "U" hillside letter for this school no longer exists? Are there any photos available of it? See List of Hillside Letters for more details. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

I can certainly confirm it doesn't exist as of today. In fact, I'm not sure one ever existed. PerryPlanet (talk) 20:08, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, it definitely no longer exists. I do remember seeing it mentioned in print at one point (I think in a "history of Albuquerque" type book), but I can't find anything online. There is also a hill called "U Mound" in the foothills, near the end of Copper Ave. Very circumstantial evidence, but I think it did exist. Camerafiend (talk) 23:23, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Student government leaders

I have twice removed a list of the elected student government officers (and their hometowns). This material has no place in this encyclopedia article as it's extraordinarily unlikely that any reader will care about this ephemera. I am not slighting these students when I assert that this information simply isn't of broad enough importance to warrant inclusion here. ElKevbo (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

I have also removed the executive officers infobox, for the same reason. Camerafiend (talk) 22:58, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I see this is actually the same thing you removed. It was re-added. In any case, it doesn't belong here. Camerafiend (talk) 23:05, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Meteorite Museum - Institute of Meteoritics

Hello
Could someone donate an image of the Norton County meteorite? Long Island meteorite would be nice as well, if there is a sample there ;) Thx. Cheers --Chris.urs-o (talk) 07:50, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

UNM-Albuquerque

Where is UNM ever referred to as "University of New Mexico at Albuquerque" or "UNM-Albuquerque"? Forty years in Albuquerque, six on campus, and I've never seen or heard that. Google brings up no references that use those names. Laszlo Panaflex (talk) 22:04, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

I've never heard that either. I'd say go ahead and remove that. PerryPlanet (talk) 18:58, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

I suggest removing the rationale for the non-free image File:New Mexico Lobos Primary Mark.png for this article as invalid on the same grounds as Talk:University of Florida#Florida Gators logo. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 16:08, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Tuition

The word tuition does not appear anywhere in this article. - 67.0.219.37 (talk) 16:34, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

Location in lede

Following other university articles, should we clarify that the 'main campus' is located in Albuquerque? UNM has multiple branches so is 'located' at many locations in the state. 2601:8C1:8580:16CB:696C:5F89:B4E7:E36A (talk) 17:40, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
