Bad information?[edit]

This sentence seems to contradict itself from the first main paragraph.

"McMahon was to have been the expedition's commanding officer, until he was replaced three days before its departure; instead, McMahon served as commander of the convoy."

It seems to say that although McMahon was supposed to be the commander, he was the commander instead.  :) Also later on it says somebody else is commander, one Charles McClure. Anyone know anything about that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Halfhoot (talkcontribs) 17:08, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look in the report it's a bit clearer -- there was the Expedition Commander, Col. McClure, and then under him was the Train Commander, Capt. McMahon. As I understand it -- I didn't put it in the article since I need to find something to back it up, but it seems clear in the subtext of Lt. Jackson's report -- McMahon did all the work preparing the expedition, and then at the last minute some people higher up in the Army thought it would be a political plum or a fun change of pace and took over or got attached as observers. --Stlemur (talk) 17:24, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
