this page is an excellent article. i was trying to explain what a traiteur is to a friend, as i've been treated before, and this article explained it perfectly. it does not need to be changed one bit. from experience, i can tell you that the statements made are true. please keep this in mind if you're thinking about editing it.

The book Bayou Farewell by Mike Tidwell has a bit about a Houma Indian traiteur. (The Native American Houmas generally speak French and are Catholic, though their "traiteurs" might be a little different?) Frankly, I don't like the portrayal in Bayou Farewell, where "complimentary to allopathic" aspects are completely missing and some disreputable "cures" are presented. French Canadian Traditions[edit]

Guérisseurs may be the Quebec version of Traiteurs. I am afraid I cannot read French however.;( Cuvtixo 04:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
