Film Name, Album Name the same[edit]

The film shares names with John Entwistle's fifth solo album (and his best charting) Too Late the Hero (album) so think this project should be named Too Late the Hero (film).

Fading flag in opening credits[edit]

Was this the movie that showed, in the opening credits, a flag waving in the breeze and visibly ageing as we watched? It started out as a new-ish flag, but the colours gradually faded and it became ragged and tattered by the end of the credits. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 05:23, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

14 guys[edit]

The article listed 12 guys in the patrol led by Hornsby. I think there were 14. One stepped on a mine causing Tosh to say "he has us surrounded". Grade depicted for the character played by Henry Fonda (Colonel or Captain)[edit]

See the two edit summaries in this diff. The film itself is a verifiable reliable source for what is in the film. I happen to have a copy of the film, and have taken a look at it.

The views of Henry Fonda's collar insignia in the shots of him between 2m14s and 2m45s into the film show the insignia as viewed from a very high angle. The tops of the two outside parts could possibly be seen as being the wings of a Colonel's eagles or the tops of the two bars of the insignia of an Army Captain.
The 19th credit in the film's closing credits list reads, "Captain Nolan .... Henry Fonda".

The cast list[edit]

I would say that the cast list has been simply copied from that of the Internet Movie Database and there are many things wrong with it:
1) Ranks should be written in full (at least at first mention) e.g. 'Lt' = Lieutenant
2) Most of the cast are meant to be British soldiers - therefore 'Pvt' should be 'Pte' (Private)

Two things: (a) It would be best to cite the source of the information; (b) the article content should reflect the information in the source from which the information was taken. Re your points, (1) judgement call (MOS seems to be silent on this, but see MOS:ABBR#Abbreviations widely used in Wikipedia); (2) No (calls for too much editorial interpretation). In a rather belated reply to your points, I would say:

(a) I totally agree. (b) Ditto.

As far as the 'judgement call' is concerned, to write the rank in full at first mention:

Somewhere on the MoS (in the section on abbreviations), it states that "common sense" should be used. This might be a good example of when to apply it; there almost certainly will be readers whose first language is not English, so to do so might help them (i.e. Col.=Colonel; Lt. Cmdr.=Lieutenant Commander, etc); it would also show (in this case), that the film is probably about non-American soldiers, which might benefit readers on both sides of the 'pond'.

I don't think it would 'call for too much editorial interpretation'.
