But how does it work?[edit]

Please add an explanation of how the device works. It is clear that a microphone can detect simple throat sounds such as "aaah" or "oooh" sounds, but complex, articulate speech is created in the mouth by movement of jaw and tongue, so how are words detected by a microphone in contact with the larynx, quite a distance below the speech-creating mouth?
