Re name-origin of Merritt, British Columbia[edit]

That article attributes Thomas Rodman's father William Hamilton Merritt as the namesake of the town in BC, but the BCGNIS reference says the individual in question was a mining engineer and seems to ahve still been alive in 1906....could there be a grandson of the same name?
