The ODNB article makes it clear that recent scholarship paints a somewhat different picture. The identification with the Thomas Collier of Surrey is perhaps only tentative. Collier was associated with the army as a chaplain, and was close to the Putney debates and the Levellers, though not one himself. After the Restoration he was still active in the south-west. Arian polemicist?[edit]
