This article was marked as sounding like an advertisement. Which parts sound overly bias?

I mis-tagged the article advert and have removed the tag. regards, --guyzero | talk 17:06, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPD releases[edit]

We don't need this section, because it is in the website and we are already linking there. Imagine if we were to link to every single press release done by Electronic Arts, we would have over 1,000 links in a single article. We don't need many links when one makes all of the others available. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 02:08, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

07 April 2012 Edit[edit]

So, as part of a college course I'm taking, I've given this page a rather large overhaul. According to the APS Wikipedia Initive's website, this article lacked content, references, structure, and links to relevant materials. I felt that the structure was actually fine, as it does a good job explaining how the website worked back in its heyday, but I attempted to improve all of the other areas, as well as to reflect the modern (dead) status of the site. To summarize, my changes were:

  • Intro: Added link to article on Video Game, changed the infobox to have status as "online" and registration as "optional" in compliance with Template:Infobox_Website, and removed the red link on Brian Shiau (he's not relevant enough... sorry Brian!). I also updated the site's URL to the new URL (removed the word "the" from it, although both URLs still work).
  • How it Works: Linked Stocks, NPD Futures, Metacritic Futures, and DKP to their descriptions in each of their first appearances in the article. Added a reference to the simExchange being a "stock market game". Finally, I expanded on the social news aspect of the site, which was "appropriately" mentioned in the intro, but never expounded upon in the rest of the article.
  • DKP: Expounded on DKP to avoid confusion with actual Dragon Kill Points, noted that it isn't based on actual currency (many virtual currencies are).
  • Types of Contracts: Added more history as to when each kind of contract became available.
  • Stocks: Added other terms by which stocks are referred to, such as "GLS stocks". Clarified that these are unit sales. Changed paragraph structure.
  • NPD Futures: Fixed the list to follow Wikipedia's manual of style at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Embedded_lists which prefers prose to lists. Changed to past tense (these don't exist anymore), and added content about when these stopped being offered. Also fixed some grammar.
  • Metacritic Futures: Link "metascores" to article, it's a unique term not used anywhere else in the article, and could be confusing. Lowercased the "m" in all instances of "metascore" (that's how the Metacritic article does it). Added information about when these stopped being offered.
  • Applications: Changed parts of this section to past tense (and added content), as the website is not really used by anyone anymore. I'm pretty sure that the example of Michael Patcher is completely correct (it was there before the edit, and I pretty much know the guy used to do it) but I couldn't find any sources, so I put a "citation needed" tag.
  • Current Status: I added this section, as it seemed to be the best way to convey the current status of the site (decrepit) without cheapening the other really useful information in the article. I'm pretty certain that citing forum conversations is valid, as I was trying to convey what users feel about the site now. In any case, I'm pretty certain that it's not "hearsay" or anything, but I'm not sure what the proper way to cite a forum conversation is, so I could use an assist here.

The biggest change, however, was citing EVERYTHING in the article. I've filled in all of the details (date, author, etc.) for existing references, added a boat-load of new ones, put access-dates on everything (even re-accessing the old references, just to be sure), replaced the dead link, etc.

Anyways, this is the page I've chosen as my project, so I'd appreciate any additional feedback given regarding how I could improve the article further, how I can alter my changes to be more effective, etc. Thanks! -- Cypher J07 (talk) 03:15, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
