"Winner records, with black or red labels, were mostly of a popular type, although they included some items of musical distinction...," claims the article, which then proceeds to discuss a few classical recordings (a couple added by the author of this note). What of the popular material? Was any of it "of distinction"? While I'm primarily a "classical" listener, I'd be the first to agree that, for instance, good jazz or blues also qualifies for that description. I can't, however, speak to whether any popular music "of distinction" appeared on The Winner records, and therefore I leave it to others to address that issue.
