Untitled[edit]

There's more information to come here and the entry is growing to the point it should have History etc. sections. I'll do it as/when I have time if nobody else does. As the band are just now gaining national attention, the page is likely to be accessed more frequently. I've been a user and occasional Wikipedia contributor for a few years - but I'm not an expert by any means. Not Notable[edit]

Band are not particularly notable or important. They've had a certain amount of commercial success but have never done anything outside of what matters to them and their fans. Way too long[edit]

This page is massively overlong for such an unknown band. It seems to have been compiled by someone with an interest in the success of the group --80.41.227.205 02:08, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The band are about to have their second top-20 hit (number 10 on Monday chart update). They topped the Scottish sales charts. They're signed to SONY-BMG. They've twice topped the MTV2/NME video charts. They feature in NME almost every week. They were at T in The Park, Reading and Leeds Festivals. They've just sold out the London Astoria. They've just completed an MTV Gonzo tour. Their 30 min set went out live on Radio 1 at 7:30pm. They are even on Jools Holland in a couple of weeks. If you don't like the band, don't read the page. I don't think anyone is using it as a promotional tool, rather it is information which people want to know; thus making it relevant.

Calm down, man. It's not a matter of liking the band, but half that stuff is completely pointless. There's a header for each tour they went on, a note for every appearance, and small information about small venues they played at before they went big. This isn't The Story of The View, just an overview/biography. If you want to put such detail, write an fanpage. But Wikipedia isn't an outlet for every minute detail. The article does have a of headings/subheadings which make it look longer than it is. It would shrink considerably if rewritten as just long paragraphs in large sections as many other articles are formatted. I think the article reads better in its current form though but that's personal opinion. The only two "small" venues mentioned are The BayView (their name came from that as does the oft quoted "scooter incident" and so merits inclusion) and The Doghouse which perhaps has a comparable relationship with The View as the Happy Mondays/Hacienda or The Beatles/Hamburg, and the band can still be found in there when in Dundee - both socially and performing unannounced. It's not a "before they went big" relationship. Note the Christmas gig pic from less than 2 months ago, the current single video filmed there and new Yahoo USA feature What They Like Q&A just to give a few examples. I'll admit the major appearances section in particular has just grown and there is scope for some pruning of the entry as a whole but I can think of far more detailed articles with far more trivia (often multiple distinct separate article lists!) than this one. Image Copyright Problems[edit]

The original promo photo image used on this page has been deleted by user User_talk:Betacommand as invalid fair use. However this is disputed. See discussion on their talk page. I have replaced this image with one taken by myself, which I have immediate access to, while this is sorted. If anyone has a better image they took themselves or can get written permission from 1965 Records to feature promo shot images in a manner that will satisfy Wikipedia copyright extremists then please do so. I've now cropped and sharpened the image so that it's not too bad considering the conditions it was taken under (camera phone held high from the crowd) and, on the plus side, I suppose it does illustrate the band at a large venue.Citizensmith 15:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recently Changed "Singles" Edit[edit]

I really don't see much point in adding the B-sides of the singles themselves to the "Singles" section, as far as I know they weren't double-A sides and i have NEVER seen an article before where the b-sides are listed that way. hi, there are no double a-sides released by the band, however, i would think that people would know what song is on the a side and which is on the b side if i worte them in that format (a side/b side), much like it is used on the The Beatles Discography page for their singles ((eg. I disagree. I still think that this format is misleading and looks like the band have released double-A sides. Most articles have just the single in that box. How about a comprimise, of having the single name and then the B-side below it in a smaller font, or something? Lead Singers Cocaine Possession Conviction[edit]

Firstly, Kyle Falconer, the lead singer of the band has been convicted for possession of Cocaine at Dundee Sheriff Court (See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/6412105.stm). In addition, it states in the article that the band "made their first trip to the USA, in January 2007, playing dates in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles". As far as I knew the band had to cancel the eight-date tour of the U.S. as the singers charges for possession of a Class A drug where pending. The source I give above confirms this. In addition the source previously given as supporting the mini tour of the U.S. leads to the bands upcoming tour dates page. This does not confirm that they toured the U.S. as the article implies. I will remove the statement that the band toured the U.S. and the reference for this, add something about the pending charges being the cause of the cancellation of the mini tour, and a small piece about the singers conviction. "Major Appearances"[edit]

This section of the article has got a bit out hand. I tagged it with a clean up tag. I think that "major appearances" is a bit of an inappropriate title, considering every preformance they seem to have done as of late is being lumped into this.

  • The band's first performance at The Doghouse was on 13 March 2005 when they made an unplanned appearance to play a few songs at the end of local band K.I.A.'s set.[citation needed] Notably this was made possible by the early departure from the stage of this band's drummer, Ray Mayhew, an ex-member of Sigue Sigue Sputnik.[citation needed]
  • Prior to a performance at the Lounge on the Farm festival in Kent, Steve Morrison jumped out of a hotel window and suffered a hairline fracture of his right foot.[citation needed] Friend of the band and drummer with The Underground Heroes, Joe Dollimore, played drums for this performance. However, Steve recovered sufficiently to play future scheduled gigs.[citation needed]
  • The View were banned from the Bayview Pub (from which they took their name) for riding a scooter across the bar. Though the band have stated that reports of this are greatly exaggerated. Steve Morrison states that it was a micro-scooter and that it was rode across a small table in the function suite.[1]
  • In January 2007, Popbitch reported that The View stayed at a Travelodge near the Cavern Club in Liverpool in November 2006 and that "one band member put his duvet in the bath-tub, turned the taps on and then left", flooding many of the rooms below. The damage was estimated at around £7,000. According to the band, damage amounted to £2,500 and "It was a mistake. Somebody (read: guitarist Pete Reilly) fell asleep while running a bath.".[2]
  • The chant "The View, The View, The View are on Fire!" can often be heard being shouted by fans at gigs.[3]
  • In an interview with Radio Forth One's Mark Martin, which was recorded at the Gate House, Edinburgh, The View admitted their song "Face for the Radio" was inspired by Karen Ballingall of Dundee based radio station Tay FM.[4]
  • On January 31, 2007, MIKA covered The View's Same Jeans on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. This performance can be viewed on Youtube.

Orphaned references in The View (band)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of The View (band)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
