Feet?[edit]

I think "Feet" shouldn't be listed as an instrument. Shall I remove it them the instruments lists for the sisters? RoyalBlueStuey (talk) 11:22, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree: they use their feet to tap with, making a variety of sounds. So it's no different from listing "voice" as an instrument.Headhitter (talk) 13:58, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough but then wouldn't every artist who claps have to edited? Personally I think it should stay within the convention of the instruments and vocals. RoyalBlueStuey (talk) 08:04, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Lots of artists clap but it's incidental to what they do. Clog dancing – and the sound that the feet make when they do it – is integral to The Unthanks' stage act and to the recording of some of their songs. And they list "feet", alongside vocals and instruments, on the track listing of their albums. Headhitter (talk) 08:12, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Handclaps are also an important instrument in a lot of types of music - flamenco, for instance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bcgstanley (talkcontribs) 15:19, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Media career?[edit]

I wonder whether this article could benefit from mentioning some of the appearances that Rachel and Rebecca Unthank have had on radio or television, such as the programme on customs and folklore which they did on BBC Four on December 16 2012. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:23, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure it would: please feel free to add them. Headhitter (talk) 21:20, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response - I am happy to put in some information about their BBC Four programme on folk traditions of different parts of England myself, once I have found some information about it from the BBC website. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 22:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK I have now found out from the BBC Four website that the programme was called "A Very English Winter: The Unthanks", and I have added some information about the programme which they presented on BBC Four on December 16 2012 to the website. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 00:10, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well done. I have made one small amendment as there is more than one place called Olney! Headhitter (talk) 10:15, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Northumberland?[edit]

This may be a deficiency in my geography or history but if the sisters are from Ryton, neither currently or historically in Northumberland as I understand, why are the Unthanks described as originating there? Mutt Lunker (talk) 14:11, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Arguably, now that The Unthanks are a five piece band, it could be said that they originate from several different places in the UK. I've amended the article accordingly. Headhitter (talk) 14:00, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Diversions"?[edit]

As somethihng around half of their output now is titled as part of the 'Diversions' series, is anyone able to find anything about WHAT that series is? What the binding concept is?

Jbsegal (talk) 21:53, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Each of those album covers (of the Diversion series) does state the name and volume number. Clearly they are somehow linked. Looked through a bunch of google hits but none really describe what the series is about. A deeper dive may be warranted.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 22:52, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
