Untitled[edit]

The article says the husband had "apparently been working late", but there isn't anything in the lyrics to suggest that. To the contrary, they seems as if the husband hadn't provided an alibi; the wife is standing worriedly by the telephone, already suspicious, and "hoping it's the weather that's kept him out all night". I've seen the video; apparently in the video, the father is meant to be not only a man who cheats on his wife, but also abusive. The wife's portrayed as having a blackened eye and a bruised face; you see the husband hitting the wife later on in the video, then he sees the child hiding behind the staircase and he goes toward her. You see the mother's mouth move, but you can't tell what she says. She grabs the gun from the drawer at that point, brings it up and shoots him. The killing's apparently done to protect her child. This article is terrible. The entire thing is original research, and with it being a popular song, I'm sure there is better information for it. Third Verse[edit]

I've heard Garth say in interviews (and I think on VH1 Storytellers) that the third verse came about AFTER the song was originally released. He said that Allen Reynolds said 'it's not finished, I want to know what happens'. So they finished it.

I've ALSO heard Garth say the version in the article (ie. that the 3rd verse was included in the first place, but excluded from the CD).

"Justin Bruce cover"[edit]

I removed this section per WP:SELFPROMOTE (it was evidently added by the artist himself) and due to concerns about notability/undue weight (it's not a major label release, getting radio play, etc.). It succeeded in getting me to go listen to it, but the official upload on YouTube has <1000 views. With the best will in the world and without intending to sound like a killjoy jerk, Wikipedia can't be used to promote your own single, sorry. Thor Rudebeck (talk) 19:48, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
