Reception Section

I just did a cull on the reception section to remove either unreliable comments, scores without context, and in one case, a review-in-progress that's useless to Wikipedia as we know it will change and this site isn't a blog. Forgot to log in when I did it, so it's an anonymous IP in the log. We need to keep an eye on that section until we have enough official reviews to quote reliably as well as look for properly sourced third-party coverage of the fan community reaction. I.E. - Metacritic user scores are unreliable due to being easily gamed, but an article (such as the one linked from Crave) that discusses them is far more useful to the section.  Done The way you went about raising your issue with the article was uncivil. But the fact remains that your point is a valid and correct one. "Fall" (or any other season name) should not be used as a date substitute, unambiguous dates or period indicators should be used instead. Mac version?

While this article and ea.news says the game will be available for Mac and PC http://www.ea.com/news/maxis-unveils-the-sims-4, the FAQ for the actual Sims page http://www.thesims.com/en-us/the-sims-4#/frequently-asked-questions says the game will be available for PC only. I would assume that it will be available for Mac and PC, as other sources such as Gamespot continue to report (as recently as two days ago) that this is the case. I think that if there had been a reversal of this decision then EA would have made an announcement. MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 10:58, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Classification

The comparison of Germany's rating of TS3 and Russia's rating of TS4 seems misleading. It makes it sound like TS4 has more adult (or at least more LGBT-friendly) content than TS3 but I don't think that's true. TS3 had full-on gay marriage and gay married couples could adopt children. TS4 may also be considered suitable for ages 6 and up in Germany. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.86.245.68 (talk) 15:08, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't know about anyone else but I believe in the second paragraph of the article would make more sense if it said "The game has the same concept as its predecessors. Instead of... "The game has the same concept as its predecessor, The Sims 3."

Xbox One rumor

We don't add rumors to platforms/release dates without official confirmation. Additionally, this news seems to be started by a single site which is not a reliable source. I cannot find any reliable sources reporting it at this time. -- ferret (talk) 19:40, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

A reliable source, GameInformer, has picked up the report, but we should probably still wait a bit for an announcement, which shouldn't be long. -- ferret (talk) 21:37, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

New 2019 branding, should probably be adapted in the article

A large portion of TS4's fanbase now knows and looks at the game under the new 2019 redesign. Why are we still keeping the old 2014 brand style? I propose that the main image in the article should be changed to the new one, or at least added, ie "old 2014 brand on left," "new 2019 branding on right." Merger proposal for expansion pack and game pack articles

@Llewee: I propose to merge all articles for expansion packs and game packs into List of expansion packs for The Sims 4 and List of game packs for The Sims 4 respectively. As per Wikipedia:Merging:

Short text: If a page is very short and is unlikely to be expanded within a reasonable amount of time, it often makes sense to merge it with a page on a broader topic. For example, parents or children of a celebrity who are otherwise unremarkable are generally covered in a section of the article on the celebrity (and can be merged there).

The articles for all expansion packs and game packs are short and when combined into one larger article, comfortably remains within the recommend article size (Wikipedia:Article size). Combining expansion/game packs into respective articles also makes it easier for editors to maintain, as all articles are currently poorly maintained and some have been marked as stubs. Hence, I think mergers for all pages are necessary. The k nine 2 (talk) 12:18, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

The k nine 2 decided to unilaterally delete large amounts of other peoples work prior to reaching any kind of consensus or discussing the issue at all which I am currently in the process of rectifying. I disagree with their proposal as each of these packs have received a significant amount of discussion the gaming media whilst the articles themselves all include several citations and generally aren't classified as stubs. If all the information in them was moved to List of expansion packs for The Sims 4 and List of game packs for The Sims 4 it would rapidly overwhelm those articles. Llewee (talk) 12:36, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

@Llewee: I have to disagree with your comment about "deleting large amounts of other peoples work". All content from all expansion pack and game pack articles have been 1:1 transferred to the respective list of expansion and game pack articles, plus my own addition of content and cover art images into these articles. Hence, there has been no deletion of work involved. The k nine 2 (talk) 12:41, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
Merging the DLC articles is a good idea. DLC rarely gets their own pages because they are unlikely to be notable on their own/mostly repeating the content of the parent article. The old versions aren't really long or extensive enough to justify the existence of these standalone articles. OceanHok (talk) 12:48, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Support merge, as per nom's reasoning. Onel5969 TT me 12:59, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
@The k nine 2: Apologies, I was mistaken in the remark though I continue to believe should have discussed the issue before making that kind of change. However, on the broader point it's virtually uncontested that the articles are up to the standard of standalone pages I think all or at least most of them have never had their notability challenged by anyone. I don't understand the value of lumping them together to create a far longer and more cumbersome article. Llewee (talk) 13:00, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Like The k nine 2, I think merging into the two list articles is a good practical decision. I can't really see the downside if all the content is indeed merged in its entirety. Pichpich (talk) 21:16, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Support merge - No reason why any of the DLC should have its own separate article. All of what is included in the standalone articles can be complied into one list, like what's already happened with List of game packs for The Sims 4. This is a different situation from other expansion packs having their own articles (like Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Half-Life: Decay), in that unlike the two aforementioned examples, the only thing that can be included (and what's already been included) outside of "new features" is "reception" and "music" sections which are themselves not extensive. There needs to be extensive real-world coverage outside of just "new features" and there doesn't need to be standalone articles for DLC just for the sake of it. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 22:33, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

2019 rebranding

Hello, would like to get people's opinions on this. TS4 has had new branding and new box art for almost two years now, since the original rebranding in 2019. Why hasn't the main image been updated yet to reflect this? The game, sold in stores and online uses this new branding, it makes no sense for Wikipedia to keep using the old branding. I'm sure that the cover art can be uploaded under the video game cover art rationale. "Pop pills now we Shanghai!"(talk to me!~) 09:34, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

As per WP:VGBOX: "The identifying art should be from the game's original release." The k nine 2 (talk) 05:58, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
RogueShanghai, Best bet is for the new box art to be added somewhere like the #Development section of the article, but I'm not sure if that would fall under fair use. Even so, we don't go changing the box art of video game articles just for the sake of it, unless it's for an online game like for example The Sims FreePlay and RuneScape, which tend to have their box art/main images changed to correspond with the rest of the updates that've been made to the game. I don't think the same holds up for single-player games, which tend to have their box arts changed all time for re-releases or special/limited editions, it would just be all clunky and is the same exact reason NBA 2K21 doesn't list every single box art its ever used (and it's had many many many box arts). ( —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 03:03, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Yes, but The Sims 4, at least in every game store, online marketplace, official youtube channel, and all other social media HAS been using the new rebranding for almost three years now. I'm sure uploading a downsized version of the cover would fall under fair use and Wikipedia policy, just for the use of the article. The reason why I think the box art needs to be changed is that it doesn't accurately reflect The Sims 4's current state today. Sims 4's new box art is neither a rerelease nor a limited edition, it was introduced as a full on rebranding, and so every current outlet of Sims 4 uses it. I don't think it's clunky to add information about ONE 2019 rebranding. If they constantly rebranded over and over then yes I would find a problem with it, but still, my point stands. "Pop pills now we Shanghai!"(talk to me!~) 04:59, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Update: the box art in the infobox has been switched to the current box art, and I have decided to leave it since the current cover art contains the current The Sims 4 logo, for identification purposes. Theknine2 (talk) 02:19, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Missing add-ons

Where did the stuff packs and kits go? 174.207.167.191 (talk) 21:03, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

They were removed due a suggestion by a "good article" reviewer. For the other games, the lists were put in separate articles, though I'm not sure if that'll be the case here. Ionmars10 (talk) 00:26, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
The stuff packs are still on The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 pages. (174.207.226.106 (talk) 09:28, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Completeness should be an aim of Wikipedia. Without these items, the list of additional content for the game is incomplete. I personally always used this page to keep track of content updates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2804:14C:7582:59A9:79FB:976A:FBEA:EF11 (talk) 22:26, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

No, they're doing work in accordance with our policies and guidelines and as part of working towards a higher article quality rating. -- ferret (talk) 02:21, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Why are the stuff packs still on The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 pages but not on here? 174.207.166.96 (talk) 04:43, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
There are so many stuff packs and DLC's for The Sims 4 now, that making a list of every single DLC would make the article bloated with WP:IINFO and it's just more work that needs to be done. It's the kind of situation where we don't want to end up with an endless list of everything just for the sake of listing everything. Unlike with the expansion packs and game packs which include content not only suited for this article but their own article, all you're going to get for listing every stuff pack (and the kits) is a list and we've got too many articles as is that are only lists or mostly composed of lists.—Mythdon (talkcontribs) 06:46, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
There was a stuff pack list and a kit list on here that was removed. Some of the stuff packs and kits include new game play as well as all of the expansion and game packs. 174.207.161.130 (talk) 07:45, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
It's such a large list though and with all of the stuff packs and kits that are going to keep coming out, a list like that is just going to get humongous and out of control to where it's pretty much at least half if not more than half of this article's length. The point is to not let this article become just mainly a list article nor make a list article that's just simply going to be a list article.—Mythdon (talkcontribs) 11:27, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
As per second GA review: "Given the article itself mentions the stuff packs and kits are pretty minor, I'm not seeing any reason for those lists to be in this article, or on Wikipedia in general." Also, stuff packs and kits in The Sims 4 are considered much smaller and less significant than stuff packs in The Sims 2 and 3. A list of stuff packs and kits are still maintained under List of The Sims video games, where it is more appropriate. Theknine2 (talk) 02:48, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
