First film based on a toy franchise[edit]

Film cut into episodes or episodes compiled into film?[edit]

it was later edited into the series' first five episodes

I was always under the impression that the first five episodes were written as such (and certainly the fact one has a different writing team reinforces this) and only put together as a film to a) capitalise on the success of the He-Man, b) make it easier to launch She-Ra overseas (where the cartoon may not yet have arrived) and c) boost sales.
