Is the film different from the book concerning the previous English Professor at the Lord Byron School on Phraxos? What is a "coda" here?

"The final scene (which may be interpreted almost as a coda) has to do with Nicholas' relationship with Anne and whether or not it continues."

Suspected Plagiarism

Though references are cited, 99.99% of this article is word-for-word found on IMDB.com. Since no independent information is cited (such as an actual review of the movie given its infamy) I assume that the references were nothing more than a quick Google search to make it appear it wasn't boosted from IMDB. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.23.86.249 (talk) 17:39, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Two people, same statement?

According to this article, Peter Sellers made the statement that he would do everything exactly the same, with the exception that he would not watch this film.

According to the article relating to the book this film was based off, this statement was in fact made by Woody Allen.

Did Both Mr Sellers and Mr Allen coincidentally make the same statement, word for word? Or has there been a mixup with who said what?2A02:C7F:FC4C:CF00:FC2A:66EF:F826:9D45 (talk) 22:36, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

I noticed the same thing. Fowles' obituary in The Guardian cites Woody Allen using a slightly altered formulation:

The Guardian: "Woody Allen famously remarked: 'I would do it all exactly the same, only next time I'd skip seeing The Magus.'"

I noticed this immediately because I read the article twice on 22 December UTC , and the attribution had changed. But I don't see any edits then ?!

A quick search on the internet shows that sources attribute the quote (with variations on the wording) as follows:

Woody Allen:

http://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=4716 cites “Sutherland, John, 2011: Lives of the Novelists: A History of Fiction in 294 Lives. Yale University Press p.621”. The current WP article for John Sutherland (author) shows this book published by Profile Books with ISBN 978-1846681578.

Peter Sellers:

The WP article for The Magus (film) was changed by User:Jhlechner on 19 December 2020 to attribute the quote to Peter Sellers, citing (cite book|first=William|last=Goldman|title=Adventures in the Screen Trade|publisher=Warner Books|year=1983|location=New York|isbn=0446512737). The Goldman source is mentioned at https://medium.com/@codenameduchess/my-name-is-inigo-montoya-you-killed-my-father-prepare-to-die-investing-lessons-from-william-17cab9c2f131
