The variations of Drishyam from The Devotion of Suspect X is not only protagonist is a school drop out and the rural settings.In 'The Devotion of Suspect X' the protagonist misleads the police by committing a second murder on the subsequent day, switch the identity of the actual victim which is not in story line of Drishyam. The ending of the movie is totally different from the book.Some situations might have heavily inspired Jeethu Joseph to mould the screenplay of Drishyam. Drishyam: An adaptation?[edit]

Periodically over the last few years, editors have added in good faith, assertions that Drishyam, an Indian Malayalam-language film, was an adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X. Recent examples here. This is a claim that Jeethu Joseph, the film's director, has expressly denied. Now granted, the denial may be an attempt to mask or lessen claims of plagiarism, particularly since it was in response to a legal notice asserting plagiarism, but it seems Wikipedia can't make a declaration that the film is an adaptation if the director denies that. We can, however, note that some critics as well as producer Ekta Kapoor, noted the similarities, if such information is warranted in this article.
