This page previously existed, was nominated for deletion, and there was no consensus to proceed.[1] Then, through some process which I was unable to track down, it was deleted. Because in the eyes of the US government, the UKB, and the Cherokee Nation/CNO itself (in its court filings), an entity called The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma exists, and because there were still links to this article, I recreated it. I have documented everything which might be contentious in fairly meticulous fashion, and have done my best to simply state what there is clear evidence for, rather than draw any original conclusions. I've also tried to avoid covering material which belongs elsewhere. Hopefully this iteration will prove more satisfactory to all concerned than the old version was. In light of the fact that an article about the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma again exists, I have no objection to this article's being merged with it. This article was really just a stopgap measure taken to ensure that political infighting on matters related to the Cherokee would not result in the CNO disappearing from Wikipedia without a trace. I'm glad to see that the topic is (apparently) less of a political football now, and fully endorse the proposed merger. Poindexter Propellerhead (talk) 19:59, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
